First "real" counting experience...fun stuff

#1
Went to Red Hawk in CA, waited around for a fresh shoe to be shuffled, found one, played a little..came up..came down, was near my broke limit when i was wonging around just to see if any good counts came up...found a fresh shoe where the count started to climb rather nice as I clearly back counted (as i was earlier..passing up open spots and looking at the shoes), hopped in, first hand got dealt 8s, had to reach in my pocket and pull out some of my "cash out" chips to split them, lost that hand but the count was pretty damn good at that point, bought in some more, won a couple nice hands then comes the fun part...

Dealer asks me for a players card and was kinda harassing me about getting one so I said "sure" then the PB came over and didnt react much as he kinda whispered to the dealer "now he wants one" then he gave me the card and ID back and gave me a stone look and just said "here 'my name'" and it sounded like he said something else to the dealer as he walked away. No "good luck sir" or a smile, and he made sure to keep coming over and eye the table..was definitely feeling some heat. Count is still getting up there..then this fat dumb **** ploppy comes and buys in....long story short..him and this other dude got pissed off when I hit my hard 12 to a dealer 2 and busted with a 10, they both stayed, dealer flipped over a ten then a 7 or 8 or something, I killed the table that time, then the ****er is like "wtf man, we're here to win. are you gonna do that again? seriously?" I said "i might..if it comes up" he says, "alright, cash me out dealer, im out" and the same PB comes over to see what the fuss was about and didnt say anything. I lost the count when that douche gave me **** so, I just played a few more hands and cashed out for the night.

all in all..came up a few, felt some heat, and had some jackass give me ****...good times. ill be back.

That's heat? You wonged in so your spread wasn't huge and you only played a few hands. For your own protection, don't divulge any more details as you've already named the casino and that pit boss could be lurking.

You shouldn't be dropping the count at minor distractions. If you are, then you know at least one part of your game that needs work.

But seriously, if the count's REALLY gettin' up there then hitting that 12 vs 2 was not the right play.

Casino conditions, with the loud crappy music, ploppies, etc., are much different than practicing at home. Stick with it. Soon you'll be able to chat with everyone, maybe hum "Don't Stop Believing," and spread from 1x$5 to 3x$250 without losing a 2-level count. :joker:

i was starting to wonder, but no way, the count wasnt THAT high, not hitting would of only been a hunch, and ya, i definitely got some stuff to work on..distractions, etc

Get used to it.....and ignore like you didn't hear the comment if possible.

The ploppy's who don't know BS will give you hard time for hitting 12 v 2, 3.

If the TC was getting high maybe you shouldn't of hit. Hi Lo index is +3 to stand.

The ploppy's who do know BS will give you a hard time for hitting 12, v 4,5,6 when the couunt tanks. Unless the dealer busts... then it's a good move.

If you're losing the count in the casino, maybe practice at home with the radio or tv on in the background, and try to keep a conversation with a friend going at the same time.

Ah, ploppies. I remember a night where my spotter had called me into a +4 tc and I was dealt a pair of 9's against a dealer's 6. I had my max bet out there, and I split the 9's of course. The girl next to me decides to shout, "NOOOOOOOOOOO. What the f*** are you doing man? You already have 18, let the dealer bust." I smile at her, and tell her, "It's a good split." She responds, "Do what you want man, but I have 20." So I split the 9's and I get another 9. Of course, I split it again. She rolls her eyes. I make two 19's and a 20. The dealer flips the hole card and shows a 8 under. Pulls the next card..a SEVEN! Ouch! Man, that girl went off. "See what I told you! If you stayed, he would have busted! Man, but you don't f***** listen! Go play at the $5 table! God! Who does this guy think he is, getting all greedy and sh**. She was mad cause she lost on her 20. She was talking so much trash, I was surprised security didn't come and ask her to stop. She kept telling me to leave, but I wasn't going to leave this hot shoe no matter what she said. She calms down, then again comes another hand...A,7 against the dealer's 4. I double down, whole table loses, she goes off and gets in my face now. So I decide to leave the table because what's the point now...I can't even have fun anymore. :(

LOL! Sounds familiar!

In a recent trip I was backcounting. When the count was high enough, I entered the shoe. Most players got 20s, but the dealer got BJ! The second round was the same thing! You can imagine the look on the ploppies' faces! By then the count became negative and I left. There is no shortage of this kind of ploppies. But the reason I start to dislike ploppies is some of them are always luckier than I!

The PB has to track your play for your comps. He will watch a lot at first then not so much. Those idiot ploppies were upset at you for a basic strategy play. Don't worry about them. Never let a ploppy decide your play. Just say I always hit that but maybe I won't on occasion as a compromise (don't say when the count calls for it though).

Haaha! Agreed! It sucks doesn't it? When the count is high and I double my 11, I get an Ace, but the ploppy next to me who doubles his 8 against a dealer's 7 can catch an 18 and beat the dealer!
