Anyone have any knowledge of Planet Hollywood's Panorama Suites?

180 degree view of the strip, 1255 sq ft, 52 inch plasma TV in living room, etc. etc. Any info or tips appreciated.

Also -- What are the standard rooms at the Bellagio like now?

Same as the standard rooms at the Bellagio 7 years ago, if you're asking about upgrades: highway view, 500-550 sq. ft., 2 queens or 1 king, and not much space for anything else. Nothing has changed for many years. You can get a lakeside upgrade or suite upgrade with a $20 tip to the front desk.

The secondary tower rooms (Spa Tower? I forget the name) have the exact same floorplans as the main building, but they're newer. The website says they're bigger, but if they are, I can't tell. It may be possible that there are standard-sized rooms in the tower that are unavailable for booking on the website - the only times I've stayed in the tower were when I had problems with my first room (they gave me a smoking room one time and the shower didn't work another time); both times I was rebooked into the tower.

Thanks for the info. I haven't stayed at the Bellagio since a guy named Wynn owned the place.

Would like to hear from someone who has seen the Panorama Suites at Planet Hollywood. Got a real good deal on 2 nights, but wonder if it is worth the hassel of moving hotels mid-trip.

Thoughts or experience?

I'll probably be spending 0 waking hours in the place, but concerned about the enjoyment of the room for others. Myself I'm happy with the Ogden House across the Street from the El Cortez.

If you're not getting the rooms comped and intend on playing a significant amount of poker at the Bellagio poker room, you should consider getting poker rates for the rooms (which is probably newer than MGM ownership).

It's not nearly as sweet a deal as it used to be, but still beats full price. If you have 3-4 people per room, it's pretty easy to knock off the entire requirement for your entire stay in one night; after you qualify, you never have to do it again. It is (or it was, technically, since it's been a while since I did) 6 logged play hours per room per weeknight and 8 logged play hours per room per weekend; the room rates as of last fall were $179 (weekdays) / $279 (weekends). It was $129/$179 five years ago and $149/$219 three years ago, so the prices are really going up.

Bellagio full comp. Planet Hollywood 50% off.

Just wanted to know the "cheesyness" factor of the Panarama Suites at Planet Hollywood, and people's experience with moving/changing hotels in the middle of a trip.

One thing I could never figure out, Bellagio rooms come with a fax machine. What the hell do I need a fax machine for while in Vegas? Is it possible to fax money?

then again, PH is RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET.

I mean it is really really close to the Bellagio when you consider the distance between most Strip casinos.

So take the comp at PH. Its up-front. vs. paying for it based on poker play.

At least thats my viewpoint.

Only the type of money that lands you in federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison.

He's already getting a full comp at the Bellagio, and deciding whether a 50% comp at a suite in PH is worth moving mid-trip. The poker rate is irrelevant given that he's fully comped at Bellagio.

look at the time of the posts...I didn't have that information when I was writing my reply.

Personally, I don't think the rooms at the PH are that nice at all.

I do like the PH for its central strip location and its an ok value.
Its easy to stay at the PH and hit MGM properties.

I would not recommend the PH if you have a car. getting to the car is really tough.

If you have a car and are on the strip, I have not found any place better than the Palazzo. Right outside the rooms and take the elevator down to your car.

Fantastic!

I've stayed in the Panoramic Suites twice this year, was upgraded both times from a Strip Suite based on my SPG status. Wasn't comped but I was at conferences both times so work picked up the tab :) Once in the South tower and once in the North. They are definitely nice rooms but still retain some of the old Aladdin feel (esp the bathrooms).

If you are a movie buff then you may enjoy the room themes. The first suite had a Sharon Stone theme--large display cases in the suite housed her authentic outfits from "Casino" and "Sliver", and a large glass-topped round coffee table in the main room had the polygraph machine and ice pick from "Basic Instinct", among other props. The second time was kind of a mish-mosh, having Jim Carrey's outfit from "Ace Ventura" in the main area and Ted (Jame "Buffalo Bill" Gum) Levine's outfit from "Silence of The Lambs" in our bedroom . . . nice my girlfriend really enjoyed that  The glass-covered coffee table this time housed Jules Winnfield's (Samuel L. Jackson) briefcase from "Pulp Fiction".

I liked the South tower view better, although from the North you can get a decent view of the Bellaggio fountains. The rooms end in either -01 for the South or -97 for the North. Floor-to-ceiling windows with a true 180 degree view of the Strip. Your choice of a king bed or 2 queens if you're travelling with company; I don't recommend sleeping on the hard couch in the living room unless you're into spinal realignment. The main room has a nice 52" HDTV and I believe the bedroom had a 40 or 42" HDTV. iPod dock in the alarm clock. 1.5 bathrooms and a mini-fridge so you can save money by storing your leftovers. Sorry no microwave or free internet. The attached pics are from our first stay, in the South Tower. Hope this helps.

You got that suite all to yourself on a business trip?
callipygian,

I was originally booked in a Strip Suite (considerably smaller, ~850 sq ft) but was upgraded at check in to the Panoramic Suite via SPG. Both times my girlfriend went with me but the second trip I had to put up with one of my buddies wanting to watch NCAA football most of the day in the living room :flame: Nah seriously he's one of my best friends I didn't mind at all :)

When I visit Vegas, I usually stay time share for 7 days and 2 days free at planet hollywood. It doesn't take all that much play at the blackjack table at ph to earn enough respect for a free room or two. For a while they were giving me one free and one half price. Now it's two free.

The games are not too hateful, 6-deck as I recall with variable pen, sometimes not too shabby--I've always been able to beat them, but not as well as some of the better double deck games around town.

They also throw in $50 in food comps, includiing the best buffet in Vegas IMO [especially the breakfast buffet chimes in my wife], $50 in slot play or match play, and a round trip airline ticket for $19 when accompanied by another passenger (if you ask for it).

It's a great location walking or driving--the only thing I don't like is that the public parking is a long walk through the Desert Passage shopping mall adjoining the casino. Of course, you can always spring for the valet parking, which may take just as long waiting as your walk to the public parking. The only time I use the valet is checking in and checking out so I don't have far to go with the baggage.

I usually navigate Vegas by car, so even though the Bellagio is across the street, I often go there via their public parking, a right turn off Flamingo after crossing Rt. 15, but before you reach Las Vegas boulevard. From planet hollywood you'd go south to tropicana, tropicana to rt 15 to flamingo exit to Bellagio.

... still pretty sweet for a business trip! Either you're pretty far up that ladder or your company is pretty generous.

I should sign up there. I've been playing there pretty regularly.

What are the facilities like? Is there a pool? Spa? Gym?

callipygian,

Company is extremely generous (our Chairman touted the "gold plated benefits" while I was being recruited and I have to admit that was a huge reason in me signing on :)) The pool is a little disappointing, it's on the sixth floor and actually a complex of two smallish (by Vegas standards) pools separated by an area of concrete a little larger than a football field where there are plenty of chairs to lounge. They have a small snack bar where you can also get drinks; poolside service is available. However, it's not one of their stronger points.

A fee is required to use the gym; I haven't been there but have gotten a massage at the spa which is nice but not extraordinary. Koi and the Strip House are both good restaurants and David Spade's show is great! I'm going back this Thursday until next Monday but this time staying at Wynn.

There is an outdoor pool--if they have an indoor pool I've never used it.

They do have a spa. Don't know about gym, but most the big hotels do.

The Venetian is a nice hotel casino with a nice indoor pool, spa, etc. Didn't like the double deck games last trip, but last year they were pretty good. One thing I didn't like is they kicked a $25 game up to $50 and wouldn't grandfather me in. Games vary. Good restaurants, a bit snooty atmosphere. They gave me two free rooms based on my blackjack play there.

Mandalay Bay had a good double deck game 6 months ago. One of the better strip casinos in my opinion. Owned by Mgm Mirage.

PS--Personally, I feel the Aladdin was a nicer place than the renovated planet hollywood. They did it on the cheap IMO. The decorum in the casino looks like it was done by an amateur. The rooms are plain, almost Amish, and dusty, maybe due to the renovation or maybe because the dark furniture and sunlight accentuate the dust. I liked it as Aladdin a lot better. Some may like the dancing girls in the BJ pits, but to me they are just another distraction if you're trying to have a serious session--and the girls don't have the greatest figures--what could look very artsy classy with the right girls, is sometimes reduced to sleazy low class. Not all may agree and I'm only talking about 18 days of experience at most. They're building a huge time share tower that looks like it will be a show stopper--I'll probably stay there. But the whole area is going to be really congested with the tower and then the City Center across the street. It may be a place to avoid in the future when all this building is completed.

I'm pretty sure my company would put me off-Strip, if they sent me to Vegas at all.

The dealers in the dancing pits were clearly not hired for their dealing abilities, which is the main reason why I go there. I can tune out the dancing girls, but the music is pretty loud.

A very astute observation. The dealers leave something to be desired in terms of the house putting its best foot forward. You can sometimes get better than a fair shake in more than one way.

Thanks to NOTTOSHABBY!!! Nice pics.

Not exactly "classy", but I think with a view of the Bellagio Fountains it should be a nice for two nights. I got two free passes to the buffet thrown in to the deal. So only paying 1/2 price for this for two nights, and two nights free at the Bellagio, one dinner free -- I won't have to play much to get the rest of the meals comped.

Now if only I can convince someone to spend time at the pool instead of shopping while I play poker.

I always look to see what the view is, but then I spend so little time in the room, it really doesn't matter. lol
