I actually just came onto this forum to ask the same question!! :)

I am going to Rincon, Puerto Rico, and was wondering about the blackjack conditions there.

Puerto Rico.

I saw this post about blackjack in PR. I was there this past August in San Juan with my baseball team, and decided to stop at a casino in Old San Juan....also played one at a very nice hotel (can't remember what it's called though) I'm not an experienced counter, but a man I was playing with was and was making it clear that we were all (all 6 of my teammates) making our bet value based on the count he had. ABSOLUTELY NO HEAT whatsoever. Not sure if it was because the dealers couldn't speak English, or that they just didn'tcare. I am only 19 years old, and Puerto Rico has probably one of the best blackjack tables I've seen. Double on any 2 cards, split up to 3 times, DAS, YOU PICK the PENETRATION when selecting burn card. When doubling a hand, the one card is face down, which is a lil different, but u can ask them to show u the card. When I get more experienced at card counting and use it on a daily basis, I will definately go to PR to play some BJ. Hope this helps out a little.

I don't understand what you mean by this, can you elaborate?
Rsp.. You dont pick the penetration, you pick where you want the shoe to start. After you put the cut card in, the dealer will cut the deck where you put the cut card, then remove it and put the actual cut card where they want for the penetration. However, sometimes if you put the cut card in a spot where they would have normally put it, they will just leave it. But if you cut 10 cards in on a double deck game, they will not let that be the penetration...

I MAY be wrong but this is how I remember it in Puerto Rico......this was in August......the dealer holds the decks in her hand....you cut the deck \by placing a red card into the deck(they tell you to cut farther back if you cut too far forward into the deck), and what i did was slip the red card in about 75% into the decks. They then either show you the burn card, or don't and then put burn card in burn pile. Cards are put into shoe, game is then played. I am about 80% sure this is how it went..Correct me if I'm wrong....I'll do a little research and get back with you. But bottom line...absolutely NO HEAT, good penetration, and dealers were friendly (spoke Spanish) and pretty damn cute....not to mention the waitresses bringing drinks....but thats besides the point, lol.

Rsp,
I admire your ambition, but let me ask you a serious question.
When you played in PR,was it your first time in a live casino?
Your report on conditions in PR are very different from what several friends that go to San Juan on business monthly tell me.They rarely play because they say penetration sux, heat is intense at the $25 level and security is suspect.
What are you comparing it to?

No, this was not my first time in a live casino...First year, yes. I never played at the $25 level in PR.....but rather $5-$100 range, seems how I didn't want to carry $5k bankroll on the streets of Puerto Rico. The only "HEAT" we've gotten in the nearly 30 hours of playing in PR was changing of the dealers quite often. I mean whenever we were winning a little bit of money, new dealer comes in.....like they thought it was an unlucky deler for them. And if you play in the hotel where we played....there's ONE pit boss who does absoloutely nothing but watch all the cute Puerto Rican girls walk by. And yes I'm serious.

There is a casino in Puerto Rico that is probably in the top 3 places to play in the world. For fear of burning it out I think it would be best if you want to know about it send me a pm and I will let you know. A lot of pros will probably get pissed if they knew I was giving away one of there secrets over an internet message board.

NO BJ in Costa Rica

BJ is not lawful in Costa Rica, unless things have changed in the past couple of years.

They deal "Rommy" or "Rummy" which is identical to Spanish 21

I go to Costa Rica two or three times a year to play blackjack and have been doing this for about 15 years now.

But what does this have to do with Puerto Rico?
