Does anyone know when this place closed?
I'm getting conflicting stories about exactly where it was. One source that it's still there and is the old parts of Binions, and another seems to indicate it was where the Indian gift shop on Fremont now stands.

One of the older PC's at Binions once told me that the old portion of the casino floor (where Craps tables are) was originally a funeral parlor. Supposedly the ornate light fixtures above the dice pit were glass cases that used to go over the casket on the old horse drawn wagons. Not sure if it's true or not or even if we are talking about the same part of the casino, but it's a cool story nonetheless.

I also have never heard of the Apache Hotel.

Edit : Looks like the old part of Binions was originally the Apache hotel, with the ground floor being eventually leased as casino space. Over time it became leased as the Horseshoe and then at some point the Apache name was dropped altogether. Some good documentation and pics can be found here http://www.earlyvegas.com/downtown.html

photo of Apache Hotel sign

The El Cortez's large collection of old photos on its walls includes one of the Apache Hotel sign. Therefore, the place did exist!
