Don't forget to watch this bizarre new show on CBS. Hugh Jackman(Wolverine from the X-Men) series plays a mysterious evil casino owner in the enchanting town of Laughlin.
This one has it all-murder,musical numbers,a kind of cross between Vegas and Cop Rock.
First episode Thursday nite, then it moves to Sundays opposite Desperate Housewives.

An obvious show concept. How did they go this long without making it? :)

I'm going to watch it anyway.

I tivo'd Viva Laughlin and watched it early this morning.

my first impression was... uhhhhhh wth is this. its got the lead players singing along with pop numbers karaoke style. its got choreography, murder mystery, family and human drama. its got a whole bunch of entertainment styles sandwiched between ads.

this is where I am going out on a limb for the show.

ready?

I suspect that the Laughlin Chamber of Commerce, possibly led by chief financier Don Laughlin, arranged for all of this. Don and his best buddy might have been sitting aound watching "Las Vegas" on t.v. and decided that laughlin deserved to have its own show.

In the process a hollywood type production company was selected to take the idea, and turn it into a real program.

Viva Laughlin, baby

I like it, because its different. its not the sopranos, or all in the family, but I am going to give it a chance.

One thing that stands out, is a rugular guy, trying to make it in the casino biz. I really like that. its another reason why I think Don Laughlin is involved. In the back of my head, it kind of seems like a story loosely based on Don's own character.

hopefully it gets better.

hopefully the program wont get so popular, that the blackjack in laughlin will get worse.

It was different for sure . Not nuts about all the karaoke type numbers but the old geezers wife in stockings and garter belt was hot and the evil casino owner is a guy you can easily learn to hate in like 10 nannoseconds ., I will watch it from time to time if football game sucks or I have no money on it .You really got to root for the underdog by the way and building 13 convenience stores into a casino is a hell of a parlay in My book .:) ;) :cool2:

I'd like to root for the underdog, but he makes it hard. His son sells the car he gets for his birthday to give Dad much needed cash flow and his fathers only comment is that the zit on his sons face doesn't look all that bad.

I thought the show was pretty bad at first and had to fast forward through the musicals. The story was ok though and I will give it another shot or two before I bail just because it's about casinos.

It was baffling enough that I think I HAVE to watch it.

I hope they'll make fun of Laughlin some more. In between musical numbers, of course.

I think last sunday's episode had an amusing bit where the owner invited a known high-stakes card counter to his casino. And then, when the count got really rich, he started playing at the same table to mess up the flow of the cards. Then I think they started singing.

It wasn't quite as wrong as it sounds, but it definitely wasn't right. I still had fun watching it.
