Poker is harder than CC,for me that is.

Online poker is nothing like what it used to be. Still beatable, but you need tracking software, rakeback, and you have to table hop.

I play mainly 200nl and 100nl FR, with the occasional 45-man SNGs or 50nl HU mixed in. As has been stated, tracking software is a must these days. I have also semi-retired from BJ because poker is much lower variance and much higher hourly, assuming your good.

I'm playing at PS micro stake Limit Hold'em,trying to get the basics down, then move on to the more lucrative games.

Online poker can be beaten, but it is very hard. I have played (literally) over a million hands of poker (12+ tables at a time over a few years) and I have difficult in even small stakes games online. This is actually a great resource, if you realize how to use it. Play a huge volume of games at very low stakes online, and you will become much better. The poker stars NL .01/.02 game is tougher than the NL 5/10 and 10/20 at my casino - by a decent margin. If you can learn to beat that, and can adjust properly to live play, you can win great money playing poker live. But if you want to make a lot of money playing poker online, you'd have to be better then me. Who knows, maybe that's an easy thing to accomplish :p

I call losing on the river being "pokerstarred" now when i play real poker. Its a sham IMO. I have no clue who the people are at the tables, much less if they are people. One time I did an experiment....and I'm not a pro, but certainly know how to play....i played 20 $10nl 10 person tournaments. I only made it to the money 1 for 19. I can't recall how many times I hit the bubble seat....maybe 8....but with regards to pokerstars...I would stay away. The corruption that Absolute poker and others have proven goes on should just warn people to stay away from all online poker.

P.s. Yeah live poker is boring...and the conversation gets OLD fast...but at least its beatable in my experience. I have done quite well in 50 and 100 nl games in the real world.....well ....better than 1 for every 19 at least ;)

But live poker is soooo boring.

The people in live poker games SUCK! I have never seen such blatant disregard for money as in some of these games. I bet there are 1-3 NL games where you could grind $30-50 an hour out if you were good.

I got out of online poker a few years ago, because I don't think it's ethical to run software on people and use the information to beat them. To me, it's no different than using a blackjack computer. The software has killed the games more than anything.

You have these 2+2 clowns, that read a few of sklansky's books, and 10 table with god knows what software going (pokertracker, HUD, etc). They suck, but because of the tools they can grind out one big blind per hundred:

"Oh, that guy raised under the gun, and he only raises preflop 2% of the time, I'll fold ace king or pocket jacks!"

Before the software hit, I could make 5 big blinds per hundred at limit, but it's all gone to hell now. If you're going to play, play no-limit cash games, tournies, or other games. That's where the donks are now.

Thanks for the advice.

Just saw this post after being away from the forum for awhile.

I play solely online as my only source of income. Granted I just graduated college and have no one to support, makes these cheaper and easier for me.

I use to play 45 - 90 man sngs, but as of recently have moved over to cash games and in particular Heads Up Play.

Good idea. tons of fish in the 45 and 90 sngs and we dont even need to get started with how fishy Heads Up No limit is. If your looking for some good entertainment and making easy money HU is definitely the way to go.

Marty, what limits do you play for the 45 and 90 sngs? and HU cash?

Heads up is pretty rake-tastic too. Be careful.

Yeah I played a HU game with a friend once on FT on a 25/50 game. After 50 hands the total rake paid was almost 5 bucks. You gotta be pretty good to beat the rake on a heads up game.

you just have to bumhunt to play HU. Find the tilted/drunk maniacs that are just looking to hit a piece of the flop and ship it in. Theres no point in playing even halfway decent players HU because of the rake and the fact that there are soo many other fish you could be playing.
