Downtown Vegas Report

#1
Had a very streaky recent trip to downtown Vegas. The first day and a half, I never had a losing session. Many times winning small amounts, but never a loss. Then, I went a full day with every session being a loser. Lost all my winnings plus 600 of my own money. But, I stuck with the plan and when it turned around I had three great sessions at three different casinos. Made up my losses and ended up making expenses plus a small profit.
My point being, have faith in Advantage Playing. In the long run, it works and I had a great time.;)

You went a full day with every session being a loser, but made it up the next day and attribute it to long term Advantage Play?
Please report back in 600,000 hands.

No conditions to report?
Everything downtown is $5 DD H17NDAS 50-65% pen. A couple of DAS places mixed in. Hopeless single deck (H17 D10 horrible pen) except at the Cortez, where it's hawked. Not very good, you're better off playing the shoes on the strip.

Yeah, I kind of assumed that. I just thought it was weird to have a post titled "Downtown Vegas Report" that actually didn't report anything.

On a side note, why do people go/stay downtown anymore? I understood the allure in the past when rooms were much cheaper than the strip, minimums were lower, and the rules were better. But all three of these advantages seem to have disappeared.

Speaking for myself, I stay/play downtown because its less hectic than the strip, food is very good and very cheap, and you can casino hop quite easily.
The free concerts on Fremont St have improved greatly the last two years and there are some very kool bars there these days. I don't have to walk miles when I self-park, nor wait fifteen minutes when I valet park, and I can get from a table to my room in five minutes or less. When I'm with a group, we don't waste time wandering around huge casinos looking for each other.

For conditions downtown, I always use the Current Blackjack Newsletter. It's usually pretty accurate. I played mostly DD. Casinos included were the Fremont (poor penetration with some dealers), Golden Nugget, Four Queens, California Club and El Cortez (best penetration). Played SD at Binion's and El Cortez.
Maybe I'm paranoid, but I hesitate to give specific dates and tables. I mean who knows who reads these message boards.
I know the law of large numbers does not come into play over a four day trip. I guess I was just trying to be encouraging when the game turns crappy. It is easy to react emotionally when everybody else at the table is getting the good hands. One must stay with the system and have faith that in the long run, it is the only way to play.
Finally, I like Downtown a lot. It's easy to casino hop and as mentioned above , easier to keep friends together. Also, at the end of the day, after several drinks, all one has to do is walk back to the hotel. No driving or taxis.
Good Luck

Plus, there are reasonably playable games if you look hard enough.

I've always been able to find decent games at a couple of places downtown, but no one ever seems to mention them (save El Cortez). Maybe they're only good when I stop by?

Perhaps the lack of publicity is why they remain decent. While I will often correct someone who calls a bad game a pretty good one, I have no compunction to do the reverse.

Below the black-chip level, you'll be treated MUCH better downtown than on the strip. Quite easy to get a room and 3 square meals comped with a red chip bankroll if you know what you're doing.

And I agree, those concerts are quite good. I saw a Styx cover band that was undoubtedly better than actual Styx.

I was there and I thought it WAS Styx back in their prime!
