Desperate!

there is some good advice, and bad advice in this thread.

Your safest bet is to just take a break, and truely, and honestly analize if you can control yourself. The denial phase of an addiction clouds your judgement. A few months break clears the mind, and the pain of that loss will start to go away. Then you can truely evaluate yourself, and rebuild from the inside out.

I had a lot of self control problems in the past, especially when it came to gambling. And I will say it took years to overcome. The biggest thing is to see things as they really are, especially yourself.

Casinos want to suck you in, and make you feel like you are in some sort of warm safe place, as they suck the money out of your wallet. I see them as they really are, which is just a business trying to take my money and give nothing in return, they are selling a sham product. The illusion that its 'easy' to make money there.

No one trying to take my money and give me nothing in return is my friend, and i treat it as if im itching to get out of there at any second, and i follow through. And I will not let any casino influence my descisions based on anything they do. Everything from the sounds in the background to the color of the carpet, to the oxygenated cold air they pump in is designed to make you play more, and lose more. Discipline is the ONLY way you win in the long run. If you cant be disicplined, dont play. Or play, and expect to lose, and treat it as entertainment(but losing money has never been very entertaining to me).

I can't bring myself to contact any gamblers help groups as I am repulsed by the image of some Al Franken - Stuart Smalley-like character with an effeminate lisp encouarging me to join some group hug.
Group hugs from men with an effeminate lisp will be the norm for you if your wife divorces you! Get help!

I have no experience in gambling addiction or anything.

But I don't think those would be your only "solutions". Why not just walk away completely or at least try to? If it means missing out on some match coupons or free play, who cares surely overcoming an addiction is more +EV than a few hundred in match plays in the long term. Easier said than done, I'm sure.
You know the odds are against you. If there was any question about the possibility of winning I could see you pursuing this. But you know 100% you ain't going to win playing Red/Black at Roulette!

Sit down in front of a computer game and take out your frustrations on it while testing your ideas there. You never know you may actually find something special as you do...

Jimmtech my friend,

I recommend that you set an immediate goal of no gambling of any kind for a good period of time. How long? I don't know, but 6 months would be a good start. Once you do, DO NOT GIVE AN INCH. No "quick" trip to a casino and just play "a little". No "10-minute" session online. Not even a seemingly innocent thing like office workers asking you to chip in $1 for their lottery pool. With activities like gambling, drinking, etc., most people can partake in it occasionally and have it enrich their day-to-day lives. But for someone gripped by addiction, it would quickly become a VERY SLIPPERY SLOPE SINKING YOU FURTHER INTO THE ABYSS.
If only it were so easy for people to change. I read the story of a serial killer once. He hated what he was doing. Felt out of control. Determined not to do it again, but did.

This advice is pointless. He doesn't need the knowledge to do right, he needs the power.

The Pope is grand king of telling people to do right. Yet that succession of Caesars has a long history of doing every evil thing imaginable. They don't have the power and consequently cannot give power to the people. Since the Beast can't offer the power to change they give methods of self-inflicted punishment called "penance" as a means to soften the conscience of it's followers.

Sorry I am ranting...

No you are not "supposed" to say everything is going to be alright. BUT, you are supposed to not judge, (mathew 7:1) rather than pick up a stone.
"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" (John 7:24)

I am so sick of this "Do not judge" crap! We are to judge everything, just not hypocritically.

L, I think you are mistaken. Norm does not have an effeminate lisp.

Long ago, an anti-establishment Ranter such as you would have swiftly been dispatched to the rack, then a session with hot branding irons on sensitive body parts, before being roasted alive at the stake. You obviously recall a past incarnation... But you have learned nussing! Seize him/her! Ready the rack! Stoke the fire! Now for some fun...:whip:

Franken first became famous as a writer and performer for the television show Saturday Night Live (SNL) before moving on to writing and acting in several films. He then became a political commentator, author of several best-selling books, and host of a nationally syndicated radio show on Air America Radio.

Franken ran for U.S. Senator in 2008 and narrowly defeated incumbent Republican Norm Coleman after a mandatory statewide manual recount. Coleman contested the outcome in court,[2] but conceded after the Minnesota Supreme Court unanimously upheld Franken's victory on June 30, 2009.[3] Franken was sworn in to the Senate on July 7, 2009.[4][

Many many chose the rack in the past rather than bow the knee and kiss the paw. If that's what necessary then I guess that's my destiny.

I wanted that video off YouTube with all the various church group leaders bowing before the Pope and kissing his hand. The heads of the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church, etc., etc., all bowing down and kissing an old man's wrinkled hand. But the user deleted it for some reason.

Anyway, Katweezel, we've hijacked this thread! We need to stop!
