I sat down at one of my favorite places today and the only other player was betting $10, waiting until a count around 7 then jumping to 2x100. I picked up and left after he did it the second time, the first time I thought he might just be a hunch player. I want to be nowhere in the vicinity with that kind of play.

Just out of curiosity how many people out of the thousands that come and go within a single casino can actually count, accurately? I always wonder if the seemingly drunk obnoxious guy next to me seeming to raise his bets at the right time to unreal amounts is counting or just a freak of nature. They always bet big in the beginning though, which leads me to believe they can't be counters. That or they are very stupid ones

Betting big off the top is often cover. Good for comps and makes it looks less obvious when you press in a good count.

If you picked up on the betting of person to coincide with the count then you make plans to move. I have sat down at tables only to come to realize that there was someone else there doing what we do. Moving will ensure longevity in your game. Staying may attract uneeded attention to both of you unless you work out a good act. I have done this on rare occasions and enjoyed the company when you both are on the same page.

I don't want to catch anymore attention, I figured I should move away. I would like to sit and chat about it with them but definitely not there so no where is better! I'm just going on gut feeling from now on, that or if it looks weird might as well assume the worst and figure they are too. If I think it looks like it then others surely will. That I don't want

I remember reading in one of the many books that the number is < 1%. I suspect that's just a guess on the author's part.

I think I read somewhere else, an interview of some casino security guy, that they bar a few people per month. Of course, they don't catch everybody.
