Word of the Day: Troll

A forum Troll: One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. He will spark of such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks (i.e. 'you're nothing but a fanboy' is a popular phrase) with no substance or relevence to back them up as well as straw man arguments, which he uses to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue.

I have posted this, because I am sure you have all noticed a recent proliferation of trolls.

Please think of the kittens and dont feed the troll!

The definition is somewhat wider than that - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet)

In particular, I suspect there is a certain amount of the following going on at times ...

... Others expanded the term to include the practice of playing a seriously misinformed or deluded user, even in newsgroups where one was not a regular; these were often attempts at humor rather than provocation. In such contexts, the noun troll usually referred to an act of trolling, rather than to the author.

ICNT didn’t name any names, and I won’t either. But I do know who I consider to be the Resident Troll here.

His only purpose here is to try to unnecessarily stir things up. There is really no reason to get upset over, or to respond to, or even to read, his posts. If you think about the quality and content of his posts, it’s easy to decide that you won’t miss anything of value by just skipping over them. Plus, you avoid that feeling of needing to take a shower after reading them.

Some months ago it seemed like most people finally “got it” and stopped responding to him. And his volume of posts seemed to drop considerably. Unfortunately, that situation didn’t last for very long.

For him, it seems like getting reactions to his posts ranks right up there with the need for air, food, and water. So, yes, save the kittens, by not feeding the trolls.

You know, now you've really screwed up. Your censorship is bad enough, this is way over the line.

Do you think serious AP's are going to come to sites where you post pictures of us like that for casinos to see?
