2nd request for Newbie help

Hi guys. I have only just started subscribing to Blackjackinfo and this is my 2nd posting. I know very little about Blackjack protocol so please forgive me if I the questions asked in my 1st post August 31 was inappropriate. I am somewhat mystified why the post only attracted 42 viewings and no replies. Am I in the wrong place?

Can`t see your previous post so difficult to comment though.

The main thing is not to comment on specific details where you play etc. for obvious reasons.

I`m sure almost everyone will be willing to help you with specific queries on anything else relating to BJ.

Sorry just seen your previous post now.

I would start by learning basic strategy before attempting any kind of advantage play with BJ.

A good place to start is Blackbelt in Blackjack by Arnold Snyder and get a copy of professional blackjack by stanford wong.

The UK rules are not that horrendous and you can still achieve a small advantage depending if you are counting or shuffle tracking.

Unfortunately we don`t have the surrender rule in the UK. But look at the positive side, That is some index numbers you don`t have to learn!

Unfortunately, it’s possible your apparent lack of knowledge is so broad that no one knows where to start with you.

The first thing you need to do is memorize the basic strategy for the number of decks and rules you’ll be playing with. Someone from the UK ought to chime in here and advise you on the settings for the Basic Strategy Engine.

The second thing to do would be to go play, so you’ll have some idea of what’s going on with this game you’re trying to learn. (Some people would insist that you shouldn’t set foot in the casino until you know how to play at an advantage, e.g. card counting. I personally think that’s unreasonable to expect of someone who has never played before.)

After you have BS (basic strategy) down cold, and have a little experience under your belt, then you can start looking into counting cards.

Agreed with the above.

To answer your question about the `world`s greatest blackjack book`; I think I still Have a copy somewhere probably next to my kama sutra collection... But I digress........

Buy some decks of cards. Learn basic strategy. You can find charts all over the net including this site.

The UK game consists mainly of 6 deck and 4 deck games. Memorise the strategy hard.

Once you are familiar and confident with all strategy decisions-practice practice. This you can do at home by dealing to yourself etc.

I hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum! You have come to the right place to learn how to play blackjack wisely.

Am I in the wrong place?
As far as your problem of not getting enough responses - Because of the fact that your questions so far are pretty much about non-specific subjects, your posts will get many more views and therefore more answers if you place your future posts in the "Blackjack-General" or the "Blackjack-Card Counting" section rather than in "Europe". (I for one, only peruse the "Europe" section when I'm contemplating a trip there)

Good luck & keep on asking. We are here to help!

I pretty much agree with what's already been posted. Regarding the UK game I can't comment on how out of date your info is having not read the book you mention but the conditions in Britain are not really unique. The rules are no longer quite as restrictive as they were (in most UK casinos) thanks to a liberalisation of the law, but they are pretty bog-standard for a European game (No hole card, no surrender) although there have been some unwelcome changes as well (hitting soft 17 is an option here now as is 8 decks) which have turned up in places. Beware of the inevitable swings that will come your way and which represent the major reason why blackjack remains a hobby for most players.

Thanks to all

Thanks a lot guys for your helpful replies. Feel much better now. I had started to sniff my armpits. I realise there’s a vast amount of knowledge and it’s a bit overwhelming. Just hope I can manage to put it to good use. :)
