Obviously I'm missing something here, but nearly ALL the information I got from the latest CBJN was completely incorrect this weekend. I know there was a fight, and it was a weekend, but I didn't see any $10 games whatsoever at Mandalay Bay, Monte Carlo was all H17 8D (like Johndoe mentioned), MGM had about 3 $10 tables running at a time, and so on. Clearly, you have to do your own homework, which is disappointing as I don't live near Vegas and would prefer not to spend so much time just going from hopeless casino to hopeless casino. I did find a few games much better than what was listed in CBJN, though (which was a nice surprise), and was VERY surprised by a DD game that I came across while using a MP.

Here's a newbie question for the Vegas guys: how does one go about wonging here? If you're a low-stakes player, you have maybe 4 tables to choose from in most places, and they're typically not all in the same area. It just doesn't seem worth it, but at the same time, I don't have a bankroll to just play-all (especially at these H17 games). What am I missing here?

I have not played BJ on a weekend in years.

Why would I ?

Good conditions do not abound on weekends.

The same goes for Mississippi and New Jersey, etc.

Did you think that casinos dealt the same games on all shifts and all days.

That is a given. Forewarned is forearmed.

Hint: in Las Vegas the "locals casinos" like the Station Properties have
a high % of retired patrons who are not averse to playing during the week.

You're right Flash, but if CBJN is still reporting S17 at Monte Carlo, or Tropicana, and hasn't noted the lack of surrender at the latter, people should be asking for their money back.

I contribute reports to CBJN and I know the manager. He is a perfectly ethical dude.

All I can tell you is that the conditions are accurate when published, but can change at any time without notice.

Furthermore, different shift managers possess varying degrees of greed and paranoia.

Until recently, a casino that was well known to be a "burn joint" [1980's expression for a place to avoid]

had ONE shift that dealt DD H17 DAS with dealers giving 70 - 85% pen'

They have changed hands in the last year and the good conditions are now history.

I did not go tho Monte Carlo but the Trop has dropped surrender but continues to have a S-17 games but only on their $25 minimum tables. So games change all the time and sometimes reports on games are not 100%.

Go to MGM on a Wednesday morning at a slow hour and the place will be loaded with $10 tables and will even have a few $5 tables. Sometime in the afternoon as the place gets crowded the $5 tables are gone and many of the $10 tables gave gone to $15 or $25.
Special weekends are the other extreme. The casinos are crowded and raise all their limits to take advantage of this. It becomes impossible for CBJN to cover all of this except to mention that limits are always subject to change (as are rules).
If you are looking for low limits and ample wonging opportunities the best times to be on the strip are when the strip is empty.

I looked all over the Trop a few weeks ago and didn't see a single S17 game. Previously there was one S17/$25 table near the entrance. It's possible I missed it, or maybe it was temporarily gone.

(No matter really, without surrender there's no point..)

Yeah, I realize conditions are considerably worse on weekends (and especially special event weekends), but I was surprised to see that virtually ALL of the places I visited had games that did not resemble what was listed in CBJN. I understand this is not the fault of the contributors, and my next trip will definitely be structured so as to play mostly on weekdays. I'll try and keep my action at the local joints (like the Station casinos) on the weekends, as they tend to have consistently good games, even during weekend swing shifts.

You walk into the Trop and every game is $5 or $10 and none are S-17. That is the situation you witnessed when there.
If you go to a dead table and ask for a $25 limit and the dealer staying on soft 17 they will place a plaque on the dealers right with the limits and the statement that the dealer stays on all 17's. You then will have your own private floorperson watching intently and if your act is good you can play for hours and if your act is bad you can play for a few minutes. You are now the show, the high roller (at $25) and get all that that comes with.

I didn't even think to ask; once I found out they had no surrender (and the count dropped) I was out of there. I did manage to get a few hundred out of 'em though.
