Today I beat them with a 5 card....

I arrived very early and played for about 2 hours before they changed cards. When they did, I left and ate breakfast but about a hour later I returned to a different table that presented the strangest opportunity I have ever experienced. I was playing a 6 deck shoe and during the first shoe I played I watched the 5 of diamonds come out of the shoe stuck to the back a 4 of spades. Yes, 2 cards together. The dealer pealed them a part and played as if nothing happened. The 5 had a red smudge in about the middle that the dealer ignored. Hmm, the next shoe the player to my right drew and again the 5 is pealed off of a 9, I wave off the 5 because I'm sitting on a 20. Next shoe near the end with a tc high enough that I had out a $500 bet with a stiff 16 the first baseman draws and busts but the 5 has once more been pealed off and tucked...waiting for the next draw...no one takes it...I was going to surrender but opportunity knocks, I take the 5 and beat the dealers 20. Unfortunately, the 5 never came back into play for me the rest of the session. I am amazed that something as stupid as 2 cards sticking together was so useful...no tracking, steering, or cut card placement needed.

Nice work! It’s a rare event but it can be pure gold when you find it. Now you’re starting to understand why I always encourage more advanced AP techniques. Now if you had kept track of which cards the 5 had been peeled from you might be able to use a little shadow play to predict several cards in the shoe…

I doubled a hard 18 and got a laugh from the pit

Playing on a table with an ASM that often "boxed" or turned a card upside down, I am sitting with a hard 18 vs a dealer ten. Look at the shoe and there is a three sitting there waiting for me, so I double.
Dealer announces doubling hard 18 and when he sees the boxed 3 calls the pit.
The pit says, "I do not know if we should pay you on this hand" and I tell him I did not bring that machine into the casino, he laughs and says pay him.

As the game progressed there were a few other boxed cards but none that I could take advantage of.

I was playing Cortes - the old shuffle machines and as I prepare to bet I see a card stuck in the machine, so I bet huge - 2hands each 5x my typical top bet, won both, then again, lose both - I say "Hey look, call the boss, not playing with full deck!" Dead hand. zg

Yes, yes, I do something similar to that, when there is a dealer change and I see the new dealer doesn't look like they're going to burn a card, I bet big, and if I don't like my card... "Hey you forgot to burn a card!"

make sure it's a joint that normally burns a card with a new dealer :)
