MIAMI — From “Scarface” to “Miami Vice,” Florida’s drug problem has been portrayed as the story of a single narcotic: cocaine. But for Floridians, prescription drugs are increasingly a far more lethal habit.
An analysis of autopsies in 2007 released this week by the Florida Medical Examiners Commission found that the rate of deaths caused by prescription drugs was three times the rate of deaths caused by all illicit drugs combined.

I wonder what the breakdown is between legally obtained legal drugs and illegally obtained legal drugs. I have noticed a lot of people into drugs like Vicodin, Valium and Percocet that are obtained illegally.
When we finally do legalize all drugs, I hope it is accompanied by a massive educational program, in the public schools, in churches, and available to the general public, regarding the dangers of various drugs, both formerly illegal and legal. The cost of such an educational program should be only a fraction of the cost already being expended on fighting illegal drugs.
