Mrs. McCain's Wealth: Asset and Liability
oh my! they better hope not too many stones get turned over. but then, there's so much mud that hasnt been slung yet, (on both dem and rep sides) its a perfect storm for a third party candidate.
(July 2) -- In 2004, Republicans demanded fuller disclosure about the considerable fortune of Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
Now, the GOP is reaping what it sowed.
Having established a recent precedent for increased scrutiny of spousal finances, the party now finds its own presumptive nominee, John McCain, under an unwanted spotlight over the fortune of his wife, Cindy.

I don't think anyone in my party had a problem with the Kerrys being rich. The problem was with his claiming to be a champion of the poor and ready to make class war on the rich. Asking for the disclosure was our way of emphasizing that just another rich guy was exactly what he is. If elected he would have been the third richest US President ever, behind George Washington and John F. Kennedy.

I knew all I wanted to know about him when he arrived to speak to a labor union gathering in a Rolls Royce!

Personal wealth should be an asset. I found it was for Kennedy because I knew he didn't have to kowtow to the big business interests in this country. For some I suppose it could work the other way--like for Bush--he "appears" to be in bed with the big oil interests.
