Default Correct play for dealer 7 verus player pair of nines?

I play up here in Canada mainly on six deck shoes. The deck penetration is often only 75%, not very good, but when the dealer gets sloppy, as they often do you get 80% penetration which is about right. I play the nickel tables mostly and have often wondered if I am playing for dealer 7 virus player pair of nines correct? BS says you stand. If the count is over +5 I split. I use the Red Seven Counter. A book, I read, I think it was Dahl’s says you split. What is the correct play for this hand? The theory about splitting with a high count is you have lots of tens and can make two nineteen hands and the dealer makes seventeen so the theory goes. What thoughts do you have on this?

The HiLo number for that is around +4, so +5 sounds about right for Red 7. Don't split the nines if the count is less than that number. It sounds like you've been playing correctly.

For single and double deck this play comes up from time to time. In multiple deck games, this play is a rare occurence. (The deeper the pen, the higher TCs you will experience.) About the same as splitting 99s on a Ace.

Note: If NDAS, is allowed, you should double your Index for this hand.
