Default Do the cards get shuffled in the black box?

When the dealer puts a stack into the black box behind the table, what happens to the cards?

I feel dumb asking this and I would feel even dumber if you told me that they come out in the same order as they go in.

I always thought the black box was there to keep the cards safe from cheaters, and nothing more.

No, it puts the cards in order according to the principles of the Sacred Flow.

Default The real truth

Those "black boxes" are collected at the end of each shift, taken to the money room, stacked on pallets and secretly distributed one at a time to each outbound flight to Mafia Headquarters in Chicago. Occasionally they show up after plane crashes and are immediately transported via FAA who, for public purposes claim to be sending them to D.C. for analysis, although their real destination is O'Hare.

A small jet of organic solvent washes off all the ink on the cards, then one by one the cards are reprinted with different card values.

Because 10's and faces have more ink than most cards, you can often catch a faint smell of printing ink when a face card is drawn from the shoe. Ask the dealer whether you can smell the hole card.

Theres plenty of face cards to make 20, but it takes an Ace to make Blackjack.

Nickel & Dime them into Bankruptcy.

Default Serious Question: What happens to the cards at the end of the shoe?

The dealer turns to the left and a little thing pops up. The dealer drops the cards in the holder and the cards go down into a box. Another holder thing pops up with a new set of cards.

Do the cards get shuffled inside the box?

My other topic turned into a damned joke (a-holes! you know who you are)

Probably what you're describing is called an automatic shuffling machine. It shuffles one shoe while you play the other. There's no effect on basic strategy or card counting.
