Trying to decide whether or not to contact a Casino Host...

#1
I will be staying at MGM Grand for 3 nights next month and am trying to decide whether or not I should contact a Host to get rated for comps, but I have a feeling that I am too low roller for them. I will be playing $15min BJ spreading up to 75, with a gambling budget between $1500 and $2000. I may rarely also play pai gow and VP.

Should I even bother? If so, what is the proper etiquette in dealing with Hosts(i've never contacted one)? Thanks.

Also, I may play at NYNY too, should I contact one there also or tell the MGM one that I plan to play there too? I enjoy both casinos and would like to build a rapport for future trips. Thanks for the help

I'm not the best one to answer this question, but it wouldn't do any harm to call and speak to a host. They can review your play and tell you exactly what they have you at and what action you would need to play to get what you want.

I called the Plaza once and the host told me I would need to play 4 hours a day with a $25 avg. bet to get a free room. They had me at 30 minutes a day with a $10 avg. bet. I've never been able to play there more than 30 minutes without raising eyebrows in the pit, but I was spreading $10-$80. Stingy bastards.

What I heard at the MGM

I have heard the pit at MGM refuse a player's card from someone who was betting less than green and told them that they do not rate you unless your minimum bet is $25.

You're below the radar for MGM grand.. or arguably any property except maybe monte carlo (with loong sessions)

You can still get rated by the pit (again, make sure they see the $25 initial bet at least), and hit up vip desk boothlings for comps.

They won't track you at Mandalay Bay if you're not playing green chips at the outset. A host told me on the phone that they want to see an average of $100/hand for four hours before they'll start talking room comps. But I wonder if you play just under that level, say $75/hand if you'd get some lesser comps from the pit boss if you ask? Or does it depend on the phase of the moon and the way you part your hair?

You need min of 25 dollars for MGM to rate you, but you can start off with a green chip.

If you play long enough and even if you drop to 10 - 15, heck and maybe lose, you can get a buffet comp, etc.

but show tickets and stuff forget it

I've twice scored a pair of free Danny Ganz tickets by being at a BJ table when the show room manager is wandering around looking for seat fillers. Sold all four for about half cover, and turned a mediocre trip into an abovce average one. Timing is everything. Wearing a cubic zirconia pinky ring and talking NYC english doesn't hurt, either.

Even if you don't get in touch with a host, MGM Mirage properties will give you promos on your online Players Club account (few mailers though).

If you are comfortable with giving your club card, by all means do it. In a few months you may be pleasantly surprised at the offers, even if you are blown off when you ask for comps during your initial trip.
