AC Hilton

#1
Just got back from an evening in AC, and wandered through the Hilton but didn't play. What I did notice is that the BJ pits that usually only open on the weekend or during peak play are now all H17!?!

The felt is changed and there were obnoxious red placards on the tables that say "Dealer Hits Soft 17" The Hi Roller pit and the tables across from them remain S17... but this is just one more depressing development to our AC games.

Also, don't know if I remembered correctly, but I always remembered comp dollars at the Hilton being worth 1:1 at the shops, but when I checked my card balance, the shops comps were listed as 2:1... Is it even worth going between the price of gas and deteriorating conditions? Have to check out the Trump Plaza based on recent reports.

I concur

I am not sure that I would have chosen "complete fool" as my terms.

Most people have no idea that a gambling game even has a house edge, no less what it is; and what the impact of it is upon his rapidly thinning wallet.

IF the player claims to be knowledgeable then he is beyond hope of course. If he is clueless, he is someone who either doesn't care or is not smart enough to care.

Nonsense. If the pen is good, or there are good wonging opportunities, the slight change in edge between H17 and S17 is irrelevant on a 6 or 8 deck shoe.

(If you instead meant that the penetration is 6 of 8, then it's tough to get a good advantage without wonging, and aggressive spreads.)

That's right. You can beat any BJ game AC offers with backcounting. I prefer backcounting 8D because the edge is abut the same but you spend less time jumping in and out of shoes, and less jumping means more playing which improves your real-world win rate.

Trump Plaza ain't that great. The place is a dump if you ask me. In My opinion, there is only one place left in AC to play blackjack now and that's the Borgata.

Trump Plaza may have 6D games, but the pen is often poor there, and their security is a little lax, with too many Boardwalk dregs making their way into the casino.

When I was a newbie counter, I used to think Borgata was AC nirvana. Since then, I've learned there are several better opportunities around.

I'd love to know what place is better than the Borgata right now in A.C. given that they're cutting off only one deck, it's a 6 deck S17 game, the people there aren't lowlifes for the most part, you can play for as little as $5 and they have the best hotel in AC.

I haven't been to the Borg in about 3 weeks, but it's been a L O N G time since I've seen one deck cut off there. 1 1/2 is good for that place. I'll check it out next week...

Personally, I prefer the rooms in Caesars, except for the stupid frosted glass door on the bathroom in the Centurion Tower that lets too much light through at night. Borg is getting worn down and the rooms often aren't clean. I heard they may be doing a major renovation soon, but that won't improve housekeeping.

I'm going there on the 16th, so I'll be sure to see if they've changed it since I was last there. It could just be the dealer I had but I know compared to like 2 months ago when they were only giving 66% penetration, it's much better now.

pen at the borg is very dealer dependent. seek and thou shalt find.

Was at Borgata Monday and pen is the same as always - 1.5-2 decks. Either you lucked out with the dealer you chose or your deck estimation skills need some fine tuning.

They also keep fewer tables open than they used to and the tables are very crowded, making back-counting very difficult.

I guess I lucked out then because even if it's not that easy to judge the # of decks being cut off in the shoe, once you have the dealer starting to shuffle, it's pretty easy to tell what the penetration was and I kid you not when I say it was 1 deck for me at the time. You're right about the tables being crowded. That's why I try to play early in the day or late at night. How much of a difference does it make in your EV as a counter having penetration of 83% vs 75%?

It is not only that they are offering 6 decks games,
but the table minimum is $25, not $50 or $100 as it is at A.C. stores.

The penetration is generally 2 decks cut off - and if you spread big, e.g. more than 12-1
you will surely have counter-measures taken against you.

Those are the facts.

So it goes.

I'm not sure which store you are talking about, but at the one this thread is about I have seen pen down to one deck, spread 80:1 for hours and been comped a room.

Maybe it's just me.

Maybe for Las Vegas but not for AC! In AC at two casinos, there are 6 deck games with S17 for as little as $5 or $10.
