Default Casino Nova Scotia (Halifax)

Took a vacation out east and had a chance to check out the local blackjack scene. Here's my review:

The Joint: Classy looking from the outside and in the main entrance, but the actual casino is a bland mix of white with bright lighting and mirrors on the wall. It's clean and inoffensive, that's about all I can say. They have girls in elaborate costumes coming around asking the players if they're having fun. They need to find something better for them to do...

The Game: 6 deck DAS, DOA with no surrender out of the infernal CSM. $10 mins at all tables except for one $5 table. The high limit room has $25 mins to a $500 max and what looked like a shoe game, but I couldn't be certain. I played the $10 CSM game for an hour and got out of it unscathed. Couldn't get in on the shoe game, and besides, my bankroll doesn't come remotely close to permitting the kind of bets needed to make money off it. They also offer the Lucky Ladies side game, which is a sucker bet with the CSM anyway.

The Dealers: Nothing outstanding, but good enough to earn a tip. No heat from the pit critters, obviously...they know their game can't be beat.

The Clientele: Bored locals and tourists in their late 40's, that's what I noticed. Friendly people who aren't throwing around large stacks of chips.

The Drink Service: The waitress comes by about once every half hour to bring very reasonable $4 bottles of domestic beer. Hey, if you're going to lose your ass to the CSM, you might as well get blasted drunk while doing it.

The Parking: They have a cavernous parking garage. Too bad they make you pay for the privilege of using it. Two bucks for the first hour, a buck for every hour after that to a max of $10 a day.

I know this is an old thread, but I am going to do a follow-up.

The place has cut down severely in size in terms of tables. ALL tables are now $10-$15 minimum. There are these "video blackjack" machines that are $5 minimums...but who wants that?

Rules: Same as the OP described...they use CSMs.

Dealers: Nothing overly outstanding. There's a couple of decent fellas there...turnover is VERY high in particular according to one of the pit bosses.

Drink Service: It varies. Sometimes the drink waitresses come by once in a blue moon and others come by every 10/15 minutes.

Parking: It is expensive; however, if you sign up for their player's club card AFTER you play (pretty sure you can still do it), you can get free parking....there is a hotel connected via a walkway but I have never stayed in it.

PS. If anyone decides to take a jaunt up to Sydney (Cape Breton), I think they still have shoe games and the tables are $5 minimums (as of December 2008). Only problem is the table games are only open Wednesday- Sunday starting at 5 pm and stopping at 3ish in the AM. Staff are friendly too...although they do tend to recognize you, I doubt they will give you any heat (was up $350 and they never said a word to me...although I did have an audience lol)
