bailout hearings continue
and it seems that this is going nowhere fast - which is good . Why we { the taxpayer} would want to buy illiquid assets the banks can not sell is beyond me . The banks , brokers , and etc have by now tried everywhere to unload them and have been unsuccessful . They have offered them for next to nothing and had no buyers . Why should the government buy them ??? If the economy crashes so be it . Our forefathers survived the depression so we can survive this as well . There is no reason to throw good money after bad . They now want to include cars , trucks , motorcycles, student loans , small businesses , all along with housing . This is sheer lunacy folks! When a car gets repo'd ask any banker and they will all tell you they are a mess. The bank repos a car with a $12,000.00 note on it and the car is 4 years old . In excellent condition with low mileage it might be worth $6,000.00 max ! Now since the people knew it was going to be repo'd they did not fix things , no reg maintenance done , and a couple dents and scratches that were never fixed. Tranny is slipping and a slight knock in the engine and you have a car worth max $1,000.00 maybe . You repo it which costs $200.00 and then you store it somewhere at $100.00 a month and you have nothing left over . Same with houses- they are all stripped or a lot of them are anyhow! This bail out is a joke and if the people are too stupid to see that and inundate their leaders they deserve it right up the rear with a sandpaper condom and no K-Y jelly ! Is the american public that stupid , uneducated , and illiterate on economics ? If so you all need to go back to school and learn something .

Why are you limiting the question to just economics? We are talking about the same public that re-elected Bush.

Gloves you hit it. I don't know why it took this long to question the bailout, I fail to see the economic sense behind it. The only thought Im tinkering with is that the big players already have a big plan to devalue the US dollar or they know that shortly they won't be able to stop it from a big devaluation, so that they'll be paying back this 700BN addition to the national debt at a huge discount to foreign central banks like China and the ECB. Sounds like a zg conspiracy but it's all I got.

I wrote my rep and two senators asking them not to support the bailout. I wrote Bush telling him I was sorry he supported the bailout. Wish there was something more I could do. Like I told them, I'd rather live through a depression than reward those crooks for getting us into this mess.
