First, this is a privately owned forum, no first amendment rights here.
Second, I don't think keeping a thread OT is censorship. Just my 2 cents.
Anyone can start another thread at any time about just about anything. I think hijacked threads, intentional or not, makes the site harder to read.
I'm with Sonny and Sagefrog on this one.

Did you ever hear of this right ? Read it !
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to denote not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression is closely related to, yet distinct from, the concept of freedom of conscience and freedom of thought. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, such as on "hate speech". This is because exercising freedom of speech always takes place within a context of competing values.
The right to freedom of speech is recognized as human right in under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The ICCPR recognizes the right to freedom of speech as "the right to hold opinions without interference. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression".[1][2] Furthermore freedom of speech is recognized in European, inter-American and African regional human rights law.

Freedom of speech protects you from the government. People self-censor every day. Why can't you buy porn at your local supermarket? Because the stores owner has decided he doesn't want to sell it. He is self-censoring.
If you had a job, your boss could tell you not to critize him. If you did and he fired you, would you think you had a case?
crawford has Bush,we have InPlay. Seems like every village or forum needs one.

As Jeff's says you are free to censor behavior in a privately owned place you own or are responsible for. If you espouse beliefs I don't like, I am free to ask or even force you to leave my house. You can then go out on the public sidewalk and carry signs, even ones that say things about me (as long as it's not libelous, hateful or threatening). As an analogy to moving a thread, I can tell you to go out on the patio where my wife and kids can't hear what you're saying
Even a place open to the public can restrict speech. If you are in a Vegas Casino and call the waitresses whores and dealers/pit crew thieves do you think the management will tolerate that .... even if true :-)? Well maybe if you're a high roller losing your shirt, but they don't have to, they can ask/force you to leave.
Even worse in an Indian Casino since they're ruled by tribal law they can do almost anything - say you have a T-Short that says "Custer was Right, we should have killed them all". Rude, but probably would pass in moist public places. Doubt it would among natives .... and be careful in the parking lot on the way out ;-)

free speech
I would hope that expressed views on this website are just that views. I have seen alot of threads turn into personal attacks only to be struck when they get out of hand. We have moderaters here for the very purpose of moderating. There are guidelines here as there are in any society and when they cross those lines the moderater has the right to tone it down. My rights to free speech stop where yours starts kinda sums it up. blackchipjim

If I allowed free speech I could not delete the spam threads selling discount cell phones, Viagra, online casinos, tax services, mortgage refinancers, Canadian pharmacies, and all that other stuff you find in your junk mail folder. I think my stance is crystal clear. Please refer to the Posting Guidelines if you have any questions. If anyone disagrees with my moderation techniques I am happy to discuss them privately.
