Default a great garage sale

to your neighborhood big time . The garage sale is the best cause now you { the debt free and smart saver } get to feast on all the people who spent more then they could afford filling up their McMansions with all sorts of goodies and their credit cards are maxxed out and they need cash to survive the mortgage payments , utilities, tuitions, and credit card bills as well ! Rule of garage selling number one - NEVER pay what they are asking !!!!! Start out at least at half price regardless of what it was worth new ! Just cause they made a bad buy does not mean you have to make a bad buy as well ! You are smarter then that ! Never be afraid to make an offer either or give them a phone number and tell them if they do not sell it to give you a call! You live for that call cause then the price dramatically falls . A case in point is an All-Clad cookware set that a turkey out in Westlake bought for $1,200.00 and still in the box was being offered for $600.00 at a sale a month ago . I asked what her rock bottom price was and she says $450.00 which was a steal but since the sale was only a small ad in the paper I decided to leave her my phone number and said if it is not sold give me a call and i left her no price or offer . I only wanted to pay like $350.00 anyhow . Two days later the lady called and said she did not get one offer on it and was I still interested ? I was sort of hesitant and asked her what the best absolute low price she would take CASH ! She said $200.00 and I said politely thanks but that was like $50.00 too much! She countered with what about $175.00 and i knew I had it . I said i will meet you in the middle$165.00 anjd she asked if I could pick it up that night . Indeed maam I will be over within the hour . I now have a 16 piece stainless steel top of the line cookware set that I adore and and ended up getting it for $185.00 cheaper then I would of gladly paid . My house is full of top end things that I have bought at garage sales and house sales in the better neighborhoods that people are now liquidating as well to pay bills or due to foreclosures and or layoffs . Happy garage sale hunting folks!!!!:co ol2:

Default garage sales are the best

I love garage sales i make a fortune with these things. i have booths at flea markets to sell off my damaged products from the warehouse. I can go buy out a whole garage sale for a couple hundred bucks then turn the stuff around at a flea markets for a couple thousand. Sometimes people just dont know what they have, and are selling for a nickel, and other times they are to lazy to seek actuall value of said product so throw it on a table for a dollar. The moral of the story is visit your local garage sales and flea markets its modern day treasure hunting.

Default how very true

I have a young friend who is a fireman and he schedules his days off so he can hit the house sales on Thursday and friday every week . His wife then goes and sells the stuff at flea markets on the week-ends . They average an extra $1,000.00 a week doing this . That is not all that shabby . His latest thing is really sweet . He had cards printed up and he gives them out to all the sales he visits and offers to haul everything away after a garage sale for a nominal amount and sometimes even pays the people as little as $10.00 for all that is left over . He just rented a warehouse to sort and store all the stuff he is getting . It is a small warehouse maybe 5,000 square feet or so and it is already stuffed in like 3 months . When the going gets tough the tough get going is my motto . A tip of the hat to him for sure !

Default thanks for the

compliment . I try and post informative posts for all on a varying degree of topics that I assume most find interesting . I stay away from politics mostly and religion . I am a registered independent and have been for 50 years and am a christian and that is about all I have to say on those 2 issues . Over the decades I have found that there is never a winner in those two conversations ! That being said i am glad you enjoy the posts and will continue to make them as always !

Maybe it depends on where you live!

A few years back, I went to garage sales for a while and pretty much all I found was junque. Lots of kids and women's clothes, but even that seemed like stuff people would only buy if they're hard up. I'm in a pretty upscale area, and often went early so don't think people were beating me to the good stuff.

Tried Estate Sales for a while, but anything there of any value was overpriced on day one. Prices go to 50% on day 3 but then they were picked over. Got lucky at one and got first Edition Schultz & Dooley beer mugs for $100 that I resold for #250, but that's by far the besy I ever did.

I'm amazed that anyone can make $1000 a week from garage sales. I do know someone who lives in Florida (God's waiting room) who picks up and resells collectibles at sales and does pretty good. Wife's Uncle in Sarasota said in about 1999 you could pick up great furniture at Goodwill because so many people there bought new furniture every 1-2 years. Wonder if they still do now that their houses/condos are worth50% if what they were. Drove through there last spring and saw an LOT of House For Sale signs.

Maybe with the slower economy, I'll keep an eye out for sales at the McMansions around here.

Indeed do buddy . The fireman charges people at the end of the sale to haul it away . Cheap prices if there is good stuff and a lot if it has to go to the landfill which charges $75.00 per pick up truck full but since he is a fireman he gets it for free. He charges them $75.00 which he does not pay and maybe $50.00 over and he gets anything for resale . Alot of it he hauls to local auctions and they sell it by the box for like 3 or 4 bucks and he usually takes 100 boxes a week there . So he makes out on hauling , removal, auctions plus what he sells out of the warehouse . He hired 2 fireman to help him also part time . He makes like 60K as a fireman as well and lives wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy below his income as well !!! He buys alot of books on collectibles and antiques as well and once in awhile has me appraise stuff for him asd i used to be ijn the antique business like 30 years ago . I mostly dealt high end Tiffany lamps, oriental rugs ,Pairpoint lamps , stained glass windows, art glass like Galle and Daum Namcy and Stueben . Fooled with royal doulton , hummels , staffordshire and a lot of antique jewelry - mostly art deco and art nouveau . Lots of money in it if you want to take the time to learn and study and read and stay on top of trends as well .Lots of fakes you need to watch out for like LaLique crystal and waterford which people are signing using etchers or acid induced signatures . Scam artists galore out there ! WHEN YOU SEE A HOUSE WITH A FOR SALE SIGN STOP AND ASK THEM IF THEY HAVE ANYTHING FOR SALE . NEVER HURTS - MOST THEY CAN SAY IS NO OR GO INTERCOURSE YOURSELF . Alot of office buildings have great stuff for sale like executive desks and roll tops when they move or go belly up !!!! A buddy of mine bought a ton of stuff from Enron days before the feds locked the doors . He spent like 100k in benjamins and made almost 500k in a year on the stuff !!!! They had good taste in what they bought and he went in and stole it literally . Just some tips my fellow forum member !!!!!!:cool2 :
