Default Mercury as You've Never Seen It Before

Mercury as You've Never Seen It Before

By Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides October 29, 2008 | 7:05:58 PMCategories: Space

New pictures of never-before-seen parts of Mercury taken by NASA's Messenger spacecraft are revealing surprises about the solar system's innermost planet.

Usually the deepest craters are the biggest, but on Mercury there are two craters right next to each other that are about the same size even though one is four times deeper than the other. What's going on?

I suppose that slur is aimed at creationists. Did it ever occur to you that the universe was "created" by God through a natural process of evolution over billions of years? Or are you just angry that someone believes that it might have been created just 10,000 years ago. I think you should take it up with your local clergyman.

What's more preposturous--that the universe just happened by accident or that God created the universe. This is not an IQ test. Be careful how you answer, however, since either way, it will make you one of them!

The entire universe and everything in it (including man) was created in 6 days (on the 7th day HE rested). I know this is so, because the Bible tells me so.

Just ask Sarah Palin.

I'm not a literalist, but the idea of 6 stages in evolution is not preposturous, to my way of thinking. But it doesn't really matter. The Book is only God's inspired Word in terms of spiritual and moral matters. It's not a dictated tome, it's inspired, that's all. But of course you already knew that. Those who believe otherwise--well, it's not my job to belittle them. Everyone holds views that others might think silly. A friend of mine from Yemen told me about a certain sect of Indians who get dressed in the morning for work, white collar, suit and tie, briefcase and all, then line up to get a taste of the piss from a certain cow that they worship. Ludicrous as it seems, it's not hurting anybody if they believe this. The beliefs that bother me are ones that are harmful to others, for example a belief whereby a person believes that God wishes them to hate someone, even to the point of killing them. That is a belief worth decrying.

What SP believes, I have never heard. It is at least "possible' the world was created in one fell swoop, though more likely, billions of years like the evidence seems to indicate, but again that doesn't mean it wans't created--just more slowly. Where did intelligent and self aware man come from. Hard to believe it was an accident of nature. Why are't there any other examples, for example, a dog that can do calculus? lol

Don't count it out. Science is full of surprises. It's possible that a human observer may be necessary for wave functions to collapse into tangible and finite results. It's possible none or much of what we see around us truly existed until we were around to see it.

What amazes me about the story of creation in the Book of Genesis is that the order of things happening roughly correlates to scientific observation. How the hell could they have known the earth was covered with water before there was dry land, and that there were fishes and birds before there were mammals, 5000 years ago? Yeah the Jews are smart, but that knowledge was ahead of its time far beyond Einstein.

Dependes on what your definition of God is is. zg
