Default Did I Kill My computer?

Okay, my computer sat in a garage in a hot/dry environment all Summer. The monitor turns on as does the tower, but no pic comes on the monitor. If I unplug the monitor from the tower the monitor does light up and say no signal. Did I kill the tower in the heat?

What can I try

Its a dell 2400?

Thanks for anyones help

That shouldn't have hurt it if it wasn't turned on unless the hear was REALLY high like 110%

Got another computer or laptop? You must since you posted. Connect it to the other computer/laptop. Connect the other monitor to this computer. Depending on what works where, could be video card or monitor. I suggest you repeat the test on another computer before anything goes in the trash.

Does your computer boot-up upon powering, or is there no booting process what so ever?

If theres a boot process, try hitting the F8 key at the boot-up screen for advanced options. Try last known good configuration or Safe-Mode> Systems Restore if possible. Its worth a shot.

Default Thanx for Replies, Not Working, More Details

I tried F8, did not work

The computer tower will start, all lights and fans run

The monitor will not go through the menu options. The monitor comes on, the only thing that the screen will show is if I unplug the monitor from the tower it will say

No signal input
or
cable disconnected

I am not computer savy, the only time on here I will probably admit to a weakness so the problem could be something stupid and simple

thanx for anyones time

A Couple suggestions

a) Reconnect all wires and cables
b)Allow 15Min or longer to boot.
c)Can you access the BIOS(Delete or F1 Key)
d)Take your side panel off, and check for excess dust
e) Check Memory Stick(s) are properly seated.
f) Try booting from Start-up disk
g)Try repairing Windows
h) Try re-installing windows on a seperate partition, allowing you to repair or retieve lost data, if desired.
g) Take a hammer to it.

it may sound really dumb too but if you got an after factory video card added in, make sure the monitor is plugged into the right spot. Can be an issue if the computer has several places to plug in a monitor like mine does

vengeful one plug the monitor into another computer.
if the monitor works then your graphics card is probably loose in the other computer. pull the graphics card out (the card with the monitor connector) and push it back in good.
then try the monitor again.

Default simple maybe

If you have a flat screen there is buttons to turn it on and off . Make sure they are turned on to digital or analog depending what your puter is running . All the other ideas were good too !:cool :
