I have in the past month noticed a big drop in the amount of people in the casinos. At first I thought it was the day I went but it was confirmed by the dealers I talked to. I guess the economy is taking it's toll on the gambling industry on the whole. Has anyone else noticed the drop in people in the joints they frequent? blackchipjim

In AC, it has nothing to do with the economy. It's the smoking ban.

Next week, when the smokers are permitted to light up, they won't have enough tables available for the crowds...

If AC thinks it's feeling pain now, just wait until Maryland starts having their own slot joints too. They better start making some really good table games available or the city is going to be a' hurtin. When I was there this week, there were nothing but long lines of slot machines with nobody in the seats but there has been a slight improvement in some of the BJ games. Trump Plaza was only cutting off 1-1.5 decks in their 8 deck game. I almost cracked up when I was at the Borgata and the dealer asks first if there are any counters at the table. Then when nobody answered, he made the penetration so that he was only cutting one deck off! Granted that was definitely not the norm while I was there but we were all having a good time at the table. It's just a real shame I didn't get a good count in the short time he dealt.

Slots in Maryland, where I have just finished campaigning against, won't help the conditions in AC, but it won't really hurt either. The slots referendum passed here is a pure joke from top to bottom, a total boondoggle and doomed to failure before it's even implemented.
What AC has to really worry about is our neighbors in Delaware who already have established slots venues. Delaware is one of only a hand full of states which is grandfathered from the Wire Act, thus giving it the option of full sports book room and moreover, there is currently legislation being proposed in Dover to enact full blown casinos with table games as well. If run properly Delaware can potentially clean AC's clock since it could establish full service casinos in cities such as Wilmington (suburb of Phil.) and Rehoboth Beach, which is the continuation of Ocean City, MD. So beware! Delaware.

I have the opportunity to play in at least 3or 4 casinos a week. I travel through out the united states. A lot of the casinos are losing customers.
One of my favorite cardrooms laid off 68 dealers just last week and it did not have anything to do about smoking but the economy. One casino took a bunch of tables, I asked the pit boss what is up? ane he simply said business is bad. They are begging for players however get ready for some great comps or cheap buffets because the casinos are starting become ghost towns.

The best news of all is that I am seeing real competition between casinos

I do however see alot of layoffs and fear of layoffs and anger by casino employees against the managment.

I see more comps and free rooms to get people in.
