Default War on Drugs

Just for ZG

http://www.drugsense.org/wodclock.htm

"Arrests for drug law violations in 2008 are expected to exceed the 1,889,810 arrests of 2006. Law enforcement made more arrests for drug law violations in 2006 (13.1 percent of the total number of arrests) than for any other offense."

"Since December 31, 1995, the U.S. prison population has grown an average of 43,266 inmates per year. About 25 per cent are sentenced for drug law violations. "

Default Unwar on drugs, unshake on that!

Unshake, Those figures on drugs are...there. The Bush government's War on Drugs was just one of their many resounding failures. Their other wars as well... Obviously, a War on Anything is not a particularly intelligent or creative idea, if we can go by the GWB years. All those drugs that were there 8 years ago are still...there. Now, more people are in jail for drug offences than ever. War on Drugs was great for DEA expansion and private correctional facilities companies. Lousy for the rest of us. Katweezel

Look at "War on Cancer" - 30 years ago - cancer didn't really take off untill war as declared. Same for War on Poverty. zg

Could it be that the solution is for the government to produce an over supply of every drug known to man and make them available through every drug store (no pun intended), grocery store, convenience store, gas station, bar, and nightclub in America? Make drugs as common and cheap as dirt. Those who want to OD on dirt, be my guest. With an endless and easily available supply, we will clean up the gene pool in short order. But when it's no longer considered something that is "wrong," I think the vast majority of people will adopt a responsible attitude toward drugs. A mouthful of mud is not exactly avant-garde, even if it makes you feel good, or bad, or who knows what.

On second thought, there may be a sufficient number of pigs out there to make wallowing in mud a societal problem. But a swift cleanup of the gene pool is still a valid if not barbaric point.

Maybe, we're doing the best we can considering all the options.
