21 Group - Who'll admit to being a member?
In a thread I've just read, someone made a comment to the effect of "... he's not one of the 21 group, he's been playing for a while...".
Well, I wonder how many people would admit to being one of the 21 group? I'd never set foot in a casino before I saw the movie, and never played a single hand of blackjack. Didn't even know the rules. Visiting casinos was something my wife and friends did during their annual pilgrimage to LV. I'd heard about all of this counting stuff, but like many people thought you needed to be a rocket scientist to apply it. Oh the myths . . .
Despite all of the progress I've made with the game, what I really want to know is why oh why don't those tables function like ATMs for me (just like in the movie)? Answers on a postcard please.

I am also a "21 member." I watched 21 the weekend it came out, started learning BS late August, and have been to the blackjack tables about 6 times: First time had no knowledge of blackjack, second time a little BS, other times counting.

I'm sure quite a lot of people have been introduced to blackjack & AP via the movie 21 but the question is, how many will stick will it and still be around in a year's time?
I'm guessing not many.

I actually saw 21, which was a great movie, and used it to rekindle the spritit of one of my friends who used to count cards with me. I told him I never saw the movie and I wanted to go, so I asked him to go. The reason we originally quit was we did not have enough money at the time, now we do and we do allright.

Hearing about the book "Bringing Down the House" (which was not yet out but there was a lot of buzz about it) started my interest. Does that count?

Play all your blackjack in a movie casino where the script says that you will win all the time and somehow you will win all the time.
Play all your blackjack in a real casino and results will vary.

What is this "21" movie you reference?

I hate to say it, but having a copy of the book "Burning Down the House" when I was in a hotel room 10 min from a riverboat casino certainly didn't *discourage* me from learning about card counting.

I see you took that quote from me haha
it was in refrence to the "i need tips to win more in the long run" or whatever it was
but anyway I have been lergely interested and sucessfull in casino and home gambling for a while now. I was always a poker player but always knew the basics to all the table games... the turn off was i could not controll the long term outcome or beat them by skill. I knew about card counting but thought i would not waste my time. When i saw the movie 21 it was not a feeling of "OMG im going to learn to count and make millions!" It was more of a reminder it was out there. Pretty quickly i progressed in counting and have logged many hours at the tables. Im not a huge bettor im usally at the 15 min tables but im up a good ammount.
I doubt many from our group will stick with it long and even fewer will become sucessfull but i think the ones with a background in casinos and a true understanding of gambling will stick with it and make a nice chunk of change.
