Default Finally...

Well its time, I am finally gambling age and I'm off to the casino tomorrow to AP for the first time. Any last minute tips or words of wisdom anyone would like to offer?

This is usually mentioned, but going for the first time, it will seem like you have a flashing sign above your head saying "COUNTER." Its not there. Just relax and if the pit boss is looking at you, smile and ask for a comp or something.

maybe count down a table first, just to make sure you can keep up with everything. if you lose the count amidst buying-in, talking to the dealer, the pit or others at the table, dont fudge it. just drop to min bet and play BS rest of shoe (or get up and start a new table).

if you lose a big bet, dont lose your confidence. dont get scared, just keep firing away when you are supposed to.

Stay away from the booze! Or at least hold off until after your done at the tables.

Also, don't play the slots and sign up for a players card. If you are worried about your anonymity, do what I do - get a picture ID of a friend/family member that looks like you and who doesn't gamble. Use their address so you can still get all the juicy offers without the worry of the casino knowing your identity.

I probably missed you but if I didn't go slow. I would flat bet and just practice keeping the count in a casino enviroment. It's totally different than programs or kitchen table bj. Learn to handle distractions and become comfortable in the casino first before anything else. I've seen people who never played before and it's hilarious watching them gameble in general. blackchipjim

Son, I'm sorry that I am not able to bankroll you a very large start. But not having any potatoes to give you, I am going to give you some very valuable advice. One of these days in your travels, you are going to come across a guy with a nice brand new deck of cards, and this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the Jack of Spades jump out of the deck and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not take this bet, for if you do, as sure as you are standing there, you are going to end up with an ear full of cider.

If making a few bucks at blackjack is what you've been looking forward to for the past 21 years, you should aim higher.

Take a trip to Vegas; cram 15 of your friends into one room; buy a banana sling and go to the clothing optional pool; learn how to do the butterfly; go rock climbing in Zion National Park; go stargazing in the middle of the desert ... and if you have time to play a few hands of blackjack in between all that, all the better.

Unless you've inherited a large bankroll or convinced a multimillionaire to bank you, you're not going to get rich any time soon. So play blackjack well and don't be a ploppy, but keep it all in perspective.

Here's my advice:

-Know EXACTLY how you will play before you go in
-Don't change your betting spread, for any reason
-Have a blast
