Default A little humor at ploppy expense

Call this, Playing my hand is hard enough, I can not play yours also.

I am sitting at a high limit table with two other players playing a shoe game. The count is in the max bet range and I am at first base. I have A,7 vs dealer 6 and double my bet and luckily draw a perfect 3. Middle guy has 2,3 takes a hit and gets a face and stays, third base also has A,7 but stays. The dealer turns 16, hits a 3, takes both guys money and I get paid double.
Third base now has something to say to me to the effect that if I was not greedy and doubled then the dealer would have hit the face that the middle guy got and we all would have won.
I say something to the effect, "I would have won half as much and considering that yes I am greedy and playing my hand is hard enough, I can not play your hand also and obviously to me you played yours wrong as you would have had 21 if you doubled also and since I got a king on my first card the dealer would have busted." As I finish saying this my second card, a max bet ace for blackjack falls on my king and third base pounds the table in anger. Still making oodles of friends at the casino.

Again, one of the great myths of blackjack, you know, the one about it being a team against the dealer is proven wrong.

I cannot help noticing your title

A little humor at ploppy expense

Since you are an oldie here I cannot understand how doubling A7 is humorous.

To me this play cause more punch up than any others, although no doubt it is the right play.

Man you must talk really fast to get all that out in the time it took to deal only several cards, even with a slow dealer!

I'd say hitting 12 vs. 6, splitting 9's, and splitting 10's cause way more trouble. At least when you split 10's you have a large bet down and that tends to shut people up, but when you hit 12 vs. 6 you always have a minimum bet down and unskilled players feel they have the right to criticize you if they bet more and they did not like the outcome of the hand.

Just one more reason not to play negative counts!

and too he's keeping track of the count doing all that talking and remembering what cards that came out and all, while being a diplomat as well.

The humor to me came in several forms (yes, perhaps a sick sense or unique sense of humor)
There is the fact that if the guy had doubled he would have won and that instead he was complaining because he lost. I loved the irony of all of this.

I also sadistically on occassion like to torture a loud mouth at the table if I can get away with it. More humor to me.

The doubling of A,7 is not humor just one of many basic strategy plays that can bring out the worst in some people or humorous situations for sick puppies like me.

Nope, the dealer kind of stopped or slowed perhaps to make sure it was just talk and nothing else and then finished.

Wow, was it that close to escalating into something more? From what you described I don't think you could have handled the situation any better, especially if third base was being kind of a jerk.
