From what I understand it is the last remaining outpost for Single Deck games paying the full 3:2 on 'snappers'.
This is a low-rolling town.
Green play stands out.
If you do not get greedy or park yourself at a table for a long time you will probably not be backed-off.
Of course good single deck games need only a 2-1 or 3-1 spread to make good profits;
especially if using a count with a high "playing efficiency" e.g. Hi-Opt II, Advanced Omega II, or ZEN.
A 4-1 spread is seen as greedy though.
There is absolutely nothing to do other than gamble.
Virtually 100% of the players are from Salt Lake City and its environs.
The blackjack "hold" here is higher than anywhere else, and may be partially related to the poor quality of ploppy play to be found there.

I have been there a few times, but not for about a year. The 4 main casinos are all affliated. They have a nice shuttle that comes by every 10-15 minutes, so getting from place to place is pretty easy if you don't have a car. I played greens there with no problem, but I also kept my sessions short because it was so easy to go to place to place. Easy and straightforward comp system. You can ask your balance at anytime at the players club. On weekends, it is mostly people from Salt Lake City there and I have seen multiple black chip action on a frequent basis.

Do the dealers use the typical mirrored device to check for blackjack?

This will come as a complete surprise to the folks of Laughlin.
As far as there being nothing else to do in town, the truck stop is notorious for its sexcapades.

And of Reno/Sparks, and of Tunica, and of a few miscellaneous games spread over the US. But I agree that it's the best place to play SD.
