So for kicks can we define

backed off

banned

86'ed

and anymore

etc...

so it happened again.

After playing with a card and cashing out and deliberately *ahem* stalled by management, I was informed AGAIN that I am not allowed to play blackjack at the property.

It was polite but distressing esp. since my win was from flat betting (just killing time).

Apparently, I was asked not to play sometime last year in 2008 (backed off) - asked to step away from table and not play anymore. I frankly kinda of forgot about it. Well at this property I guess it is forever.

Anyways for all future counters:
Limit your sessions.
Play with a different card and give up the comps or play with no card

It hurts the EV, but at this rate...I am going to run out of comp rooms in Vegas

From the Blackjack Encyclopedia:

back-off. To be informed by casino management or pit personnel that you may no longer play blackjack in their establishment or that you must flat-bet if you play or you must limit your bet spread if you play.

bar. As in to be barred from a casino. A casino game control measure to restrict a game from undesirables. This includes cheats, disorderly persons and players suspected of card counting at blackjack.

Being 86'ed is pretty much the same thing as being barred/banned.

Sorry to hear about your back-off. Give it some time and you can probably still play there. It's a pain to lose comps though. :(

It's probably important to note the functional difference between these as well. Getting backed off is relatively informal; if you're not playing on a card you can go back as soon as they forget your face. Getting barred is more formal - if you are read the trespass law, you can face criminal charges of trespassing if you show up in the casino again (whether you play or not).

It is my understanding that casinos in Atlantic City cannot bar you, only back you off. Casinos on Indian reservations and in Nevada can bar you at will.

Note also that in both of the scenarios you have the option of cashing out and walking away. In a third scenario, where you are detained, the casino is legally holding you on suspicion of committing a crime (including getting barred and then returning). They can confiscate your chips and hold you against your will until the police arrive.

Well, that depends on which definition of Sonny's you just read.

Yes, AC can tell you can only flatbet.

No, AC cannot tell you that you can no longer play blackjack.

Yes.

I had been backed off before and was told I could no longer play BJ at that family of casinos. I kinda of forgot.

So later when I played some BJ on a more recent trip (+6 months or more from the last time), and I used my card and was flat betting when I coloured up I guess my card got more scrutiny and I was told not to play anymore again.
