1st Wong Trip of '09 Result. ROR? COMPS?
I haven't made a trip to Vegas yet this year (besides New Years) but went to my local casino to get my feet yet. I decided to bet with $50 units with a max bet of $200. During this trip I barely even played due to there only being two bJack tables where I was but did make some good observations and adjustments to my strategy.
I can play a lot more hands by wonging in at +1-2 and betting $100. If the drops below one getting out or if it goes up to +3 or more up bet to $200. This way I will play a lot more hands per hour increasing my ROR a little but I still think it is worth it. I figured ROR at about 8% on a 20k BR (S17 DAS DA2 75% pen 6d).. I know previously a few people figured it as lower but I ran it a few times and thats what I came up with?? Can someone check it for me if you have time and like doing that kind of thing? I was using a friends sim on his CPU.. I am still too cheap
First trip 4hrs probably played 30 hands up $100. Thats double my figured EV!
What are my chances of getting some comps in LV with this schedule? Will moving around and checking in and out just give me heat issues?? Should I come in/check in at +3 with a bet of $200 and stay through the shoe a few times to get some comps?? Or is playing a few hours 25-200 play all spread at DD the best way to go about it? Any playable DD on MGM properties anymore?? Sorry so long.
Thanks

You won't be able to get comps as a back-counter. You CAN jump in with a big bet at a + count, get rated, hang out and play-all for an hour or so, and ask for a buffet.

What about jump in big bet. Play that shoe through no matter what. Jump out do it again for a couple hours? Is that even worth checking in and re checking? Would the returned comp be just as good as playing all for an hour or so??
Still trying to figure out the comp system but it seems like I may be ahead in EV from comp values by devoting one full day per trip to playing a traditional counting style (play all but wong out for bathroom breaks etc if count drops to-1 or worse) even though my EV on $$ per hour will be less?? Is betting $25-200 even worth the comps anyways?
Thanks Again

What comps are you looking for? If you need food, you should wong in and play an hour to get your buffets whenever you're hungry.
If you need a room, you should do the above and wait for mail offers to come for your next trip. It's very hard to sit down at a table and get a room comped. Much easier to use a mailer, or have a history at the place and ask a host.
My approach is that comps should only be a part of your strategy if they reduce your expenses. I don't care about getting a steakhouse comp after four hours. I understand that this isn't everyone's approach, so you are free to disagree.
If you want nice food, then go ahead and play all. But definitely come into a big count when you get rated, so you're at a higher bet level when the boss puts you into the computer.

From what I read $25 play for a couple hours will get you a room in Vegas?
However i just turned 21 and have no way of confirming this!

It definitely will, but...
Green chip play will definitely get you a room in Vegas, but unfortunately the rooms tend to come in the form of mailers based on your prior play. You can try to get a room comped based on your current play, but that's substantially more work. If you want to try this, you should focus on places that already have rooms fairly cheap, e.g., Stratosphere, Sahara, Excalibur, Palace Station, etc. Stratosphere has an ad campaign right now that says "Play Green, stay free," although I don't know the details.
Recognize that many of these places will already give you a room rate of $25-40 bucks, sometimes with a match play or a food deal. Consequently, you may be better off buying a very cheap room on your own and spending more time playing better games elsewhere.

All very true. Thanks. I am not sure what I want to accomplish I guess get as much free stuff as I can without sacrificing my EV. I have a tendency to over think things. I am focusing on MGM properties. Last I was there a couple had okay S17 6d playable games but they seem to change it up a lot in Vegas.
Thanks

You'll get comped more playing for an hour with $10 bets
then you will for a 10 minutes playing with $100 bets.

Good point. I see what you mean. I guess if I want comps wonging in at very high true count than staying for an hour and betting a spread is the best way to go rather than checking in and out wonging all over the place. I could though wong out for bathroom breaks phone calls looking for someone or what not during that table time if the count goes to ish.
Thanks

Yeah, don't check in at different tables all over the casino. That'll give you away as a back-counter.
