Counting Skill Level and BC Casinos?

#1
Ok so im a university student in British Columbia, Canada and my bankroll isn't too big (probably around $1000 to $1200). I only started practicing card counting (Hi/Lo system) about 5 days ago. So i put my skills to the test with Casino Verite and so far out of 5 shoes played i've only had 3 counting errors (all within +-1 of RC). I can accurately and have no problem with deck estimation and keeping TC. So, im just wondering what should i do next? Speed up Casino Verite? Keep practicing at my given rate? Is this pretty good for 5 days worth of practicing (about 2 hours a day)?

Also, from what i've read in the forums, majority of the BC casinos have CSMs, which means i'd have to go down to Washington to play... are there any BC casinos which dont use CSMs?

-Thanks!

Please do not shoot the messenger if he is the harbinger of ill tidings.

Your bankroll is really too diminutive to play BJ at this time, but that ought
not stop you from studying the game before thinking asbout putting your money at risk.
Even with an advantage it is rather easy to lose $1,000 or more in a real hurry.

A rather too broad and very approximate rule of thumb,
(which can be viewed as either too liberal OR too conservative),
is that you need to have 1,200 "units" (minimum bets) for an
8 deck game or 100 "max" bets (maximum bets) You have
perhaps 1/10 of that at this time.

If the only (playable) games that you can find have $5 minimums
and you are playing a mediocre shoe game, you will need to spread
your bets $5 to $60 (at minimum) in order to (hopefully) keep from
losing your bankroll in a hurry. With a spread like that, your earning
will be somewhere $7 and $15 dollars per hour and your
"Risk of Ruin" will be too high for most college students to accept.
Meaningful and more precise figures will depend upon several factors,
including the precise rules in play, the penetration, which count you
are using and how many Basic Strategy Departure Indices, playing one
or two hands, etc.

I realize that you have identified yourself as a novice Card Counter,
but it is crucial to understand from the beginning that there are
complexities to understand, and eventually master, if you are to
have a realistic chance of success.

Many are called. Few are chosen.

Beware of bunk that you see in movies and (most) books.

you need about a month of routine practice before stepping in a casino. Your first shoe or maybe second one in a live environment and you WILL lose the count, make a BS mistake, forget an index number, get distracted, loose 5 big bets in a row or a combination of all those things.

put in the time now, and save your money. you could wong into games at a TC of +1ish and bet a max of $15. playing any negative counts would be foolish, unless you just want some practice. then min bet $5, max bet $15 at TC > +1

What Mimosine said.

Here's the bet ramp I'd use, assuming they'll let you play two hands of table min:

+1.5: $5
+2: 2*$5
+3 2*$5 (or 7.50 if they'll allow it!)
+4 2*$10

BC student too

I also live in BC and also a University student.
does anyone know if there is "ANY" casino that doesn't use CSM ?

i've been doing lots of self practice too
but having no chance to feel the actual table.

another question is, Is knock out count (KO COUNT) having any chance beating the CSM ?

No count will actually beat a CSM, because penetration is too shallow.

I guess it really sucks when poor student wants to try out card counting in BC.
ALL CSM, online backjack(8 decks, end with 4 decks left) don' 't work.

but yeah @@ just keep counting, never know when's genna use this skill

well if you can keep the count on CV, then I suggest going into a casino, unnoticeably stand behind a full table, and see whether you can keep the count for several shoes (it will be a lot slower than CV but there'll be a lot of distractions). If you can do that, then sit down at the table and flat bet $5 and see whetehr you can keep the count and play BS. If you can do that, then start varying your bet ramp too. Basically that's how I started.

As others on this thread have said though, you need to have some good games and you need to have a decent size bankroll. In order to be a successful counter you need both the skills and the cash to go with it.

Good luck!
