It is possible, but unusual. Next time you go to the casino, just backcount for an hour. Keep track of the number of shoes that go positive and the number that go negative. If things don't seem to add up, then cheating is something to worry about.

If you're not a cheat, you probably won't be able to recognize cheating. Bad results are not a good indicator of cheating. You need to see something suspicious. If you were on a shoe game, the only ways they could cheat would be with a gaffed shoe, or by taking out tens and aces, or adding low cards.

You forgot the easiest way to cheat on a shoe game

Selective hole card, which they can not do in London if they play ENHC., but I catch it here about once every 2-3 years.

Yeah, I suppose that's possible as well, but it requires marked cards, and its glaringly obvious to anyone aware of it.

No marked cards

It is very simple for a dealer to peek at a card as he takes it out of the shoe. This method of cheating requires no marked cards, just inattentive players.
The dealer peeks at his first card, which in most casinos will be his up card, and if he does not like it he turns his second card as his up card instead of his first.

Once outted, you should not expect to see it again for quite sometime if ever.
