Mr Double Down

I post this just to point out that all betting strategies have not been identified and validated.

I played at a table last night that had a $25 max bet. A guy sat down next to me and bought in for $400. The dealer gave him all greens and he was betting the max on every hand. After watching me double down on an "eleven", he asked if he could double his bet to get $25 more on the table. I explained that he could, but he would only be able to draw one card.

The next hand, without even looking to see what the dealer's up-card was, he pushed out $25 more. The dealer, I think, had an 8 showing and he had a twelve. He busted and lost the $50 bet. But no matter how simplified I made the explanation of the strategy of doubling down, this guy persisted in doubling every bet. I think the only times he didn't was if he had a "made hand" of 17 or more. The dealer's card played no part in his decision at all.

The irony is that after playing for 2 hours, this guy was actually ahead by a couple of hundred bucks!

Mike ! why not make a friend with him next time, he may be making $$$ with this way of playing lol. Ask him how he did that and share with us. There is this saying if you can't beat him join him lol

You don't have to ask him to know what he did. He was just lucky. I will have to run some sims to see what kind of strategy that was, but the guy didn't know what he was doing any more than 90% of the players out there.

Notice that I said "IRONY" of the situation. I know the guy didn't have a clue. It was just surprising to me that he ended up being ahead with the ill advised strategy he was using. I'm not even wasting time running sims on it.

I wasn't referring your post, but to what gerald said. I am intrigued about this betting style. Not that I think it will work, but to see where it stands. I would like to make a continuum of all the systems I've heard or can imagine. My main interest is mainly with the percentage of how often you go broke versus how often you double your money.

Nothing to do with the actual subject, but what surprises me is the $25.00 maximum for the table. My local casino is $5.00 - $250.00, then $10.00 - $500.00 and finally $25.00 - $1000.00. The machine version of blackjack at this same casino is $1.00 - $25.00. I really do wish I had a local live table with a $1.00 minimum instead of the $5.00.

You wouldn't want this casino in your back yard! It's a $2 minimum with a $25 max, but there is a $.25 ante on every hand! Oklahoma. Wish the smokes were as cheap up here in Kansas <LOL>
