I think in your case sit with 2 other players, no heads up for you yet.
Trust me on this

If you aren't an expert counter, playing heads up is a bad thing. The more players at your table, the better it is for a beginner. You'll play less hands per hour, so you'll lose less money per hour. Head to head, you might play 120 hands an hour. At a full table, you'll play half that number. You'll pretty much lose the same percentage of hands at either table.

I thought Morongo was all 8D without ace resplitting allowed. I believe the house edge is around 0.66% on their games. In terms of house edge it is the worst BJ game in the area.

From last month's edition of C.B.J.N.:
No reason to speculate that awful conditions have improved.
Morongo, Cabazon. No mid-entry on $50 and up tables. Penetration varies by dealer. $50 bonus for 7-7-7 or 7-card unbusted hand.
20 .54 5 4.5 5 2000 h17,ds,rsa
5 .56 6 2.0 50 2000 h17,ds,rsa
30 .59 8 2.5 10 2000 h17,ds,rsa
Note: absurd penetration level and nealy worthless bonuses.

Get closer to Palm Springs and you will find much better rules and better pen.
Morongo is a blackjack wasteland!

I visited the two Palm Springs casinos recently and found the pen to be awful. Barona was the only store in S. Ca I found to be worth playing.

then you missed a few. there are about 6 stores in palm springs! many have good pen, you just have to know where to look. Morongo, Spa, Agua, Augustine (very low rollers very poor games), Fantasy, Spotlight 29.... then there are casinos scattered around, i wouldn't call them palm springs, but within 1.25 hours there are about 2-3 others, all in different directions. not much farther and you hit 4-5 in N. SD.
Barona is hands down the best place to play for many reasons in SD.
as far as morongo, i've played PS many times and ALWAYS drove right by that place based on CBJN. I stopped in one day and it was worse than I thought, all 8D (don't know if there are 6D) but there were like 100 families with little kids there, running around screaming. it was like being in LA! An absolute nightmare for BJ and everything else! I doubt CBJN has been updated properly about Morongo and other casinos in the region based on personal experience.
