First time in vegas - looking for 5$ games
Hi,
I've been reading these forums for a while, I've been to AC a handful of times and really enjoy playing blackjack. I'm going out to vegas tonight for about a week, Im going to be staying at Planet Hollywood. I'm mostly just a BS player, I'll try to keep count when a new deck starts, but I wouldnt consider myself a strong card counter. Im also a low budget player, just looking to have fun.
So my question is, staying at PH, where is my best chance to find a 5 dollar game?
Any other tips for a first timer in Vegas would be nice too. Im going to be there from tonight (friday) till wednesday afternoon.

If it's your first time to Vegas, you can probably just scout the tables as you make the obligatory "walk up and down the Strip gawking" tour, which you should really do one afternoon.
Downtown will have a lot of $5 games, but it might not be cost effective to make the trip unless you're going there for other reasons. To the south, Tropicana and Monte Carlo regularly have $5 games, Luxor and Excalibur will have them sometimes. To the north, I'd try Bills, Flamingo, and IP, but I don't go up that way very often. I found some $5 games at TI last year too.
Watch out for 6:5 BJ on shoe games at HET properties (Paris, Bally's, Bill's, O'Shea's, Flamingo, IP, Harrah's). The signs are not prominently displayed.

Yeah - have fun.
In terms of gambling, the most important thing you can do is budget correctly. Separate out a gambling budget from the rest of your budget, and separate your gambling budget into equal chunks divided among the days you're there. Under no circumstances should you borrow from a previous day's winnings or the next day's budget. This will make it near impossible to lose all your money gambling (which will most definitely decrease your fun).
If you're going to see a show, realize that a lot of shows are dark on Monday and Tuesday, so you should plan accordingly.

best $5 games are either downtown or on the boulder strip. If you don't mind grungy joints, go to the longhorn, $2 6D game with double on any first three cards (not after split), DAS on 2! Great game, great dealers, beautiful new bathrooms.
As far as pitch games, there are a ton of good games in clean casinos - try the Eastside cannary and boulder station. These will be some of the better $5 games you can play while there, $5 strip games will be 6D/8D shoes, for them the Tropicana would be a good start. Be careful of Flamingo, they have a 6:5 6D game, it might be tough to spot for a new player.

In looking for $5 games, you could not have selected a worse location, as you are staying "Center Strip".
If you walk down to Tropicana you'll find $5 action.
You can hike over to Terribles where they always have $5 games available.
You might even get up to Circus Circus

Thanks for the tip, cheap blackjack actually wasnt the priority for us. We're going mostly just for a vacation, to hang out by the pool, and have a good time.
On that topic, does anyone have any good/bad experiences or comments on Planet hollywood?

They have a good coupon book when you sign up for their player's card that includes a $25 matchplay.
I've also heard good things about their buffet. You can download a printable coupon for $5 off here.

Oddly enough
I am long trespassed at Planet H., but I wanted to take a moment to say that P.H. has the single best coffee shop; in Las Vegas: "The Planet Dailies"
I am a gourmet chef. This is the ONLY coffee shop (anywhere) that I rave about.

I've stayed at PH twice. Really nice place...casino is very nice, as is the entire hotel. Also, you have an entire mall attached to the hotel if you or your lady friends woudl be interested in that. As far as the gambling goes, only $10 plus at PH...but they do have some pretty hot dealers at different tables and you can get a steady flow of free Newcastles while you play. My friends and I took over a $10 table before we went out to a club, and the waitress was so fast we had to pound about half our beers everytime she came over so that we could get a fresh Newcastle...pretty amazing to say the least.
As far as $5 games go, during the day you won't have trouble finding them at Tropicana for sure....we also found them at NY,NY and MGM...but past 3pm it will be impossible. Oh yea, Wild Bill's Gambling Hall also had some. Remember to avoid 6 to 5 single deck...and have a lot of fun. I don't know if this is what you're interested in, but Spearmint Rhinos is an amazing stripclub...about 10 billion times better than teh crap we have in the midwest.
Enjoy!

Have you ever snuck in for a quick double shot of espresso and a croissant?
