Game Variations

I ran into a variation on table rules that I hadn't seen before. I was playing downtown and I think it was at Fremont Casino though it might have been at one of the others on the "east" end of Fremont.

In this DD game, the cards were dealt as normal but the dealer only peeked for blackjack if his upcard was an Ace. If it was a face he did not reveal his hand until after players made their decisions. Obviously, this is bad for players because we double Eleven's against Faces.

I guess this is sort of like European rules though not quite as bad. I went back the next day and the rule was not in effect and the dealer denied any knowlege of any of their tables set up with that rule. Note that at the Fremont, the dealer does not use a cut card. This makes preferential shuffling a lot less noticable. I'm not sure how they decide when to shuffle up! Obviously, I didn't play at that casino much! There was no reason to game at Fremont Casino when 4-Queens, Fitzgerald's, Binion's and Plaza have so much better games.
