Can someone suggest some reasonably priced hotels along the strip? I've never been before and the only thing I am picky about is having a hotel room which is relatively quiet so I can get a good nights sleep (though I might not go to bed till the morning ;) )

ETG....You might try Casino Royale or even Flamingo. My kids like to stay on the Strip when we take them to Vegas and they have stayed at both places. CR probably has the best room rates.

Be sure to sign up for the player's club at Casino Royale as well. Their monthly coupon offer for out-of-town players is probably the best in town.

Strip Hotels

You may also want to consider the Imperial Palace, right near the Casino Royale. I have stayed there several times, and found it to be comfortable and reasonably priced. (They used to have some REALLY good BJ in the Champagne Pit, but last time I was there things seemed to have gone downhill.) The IP is also located next to Harrah's, which offers free shuttles to their various properties -- it's a nice free way to get around.

Two weeks ago, I stayed at the Sahara for the first time, and was not impressed. There was construction going on across the street (with noise starting at 6 AM) and the BJ games were mediocre, at best.

My friend got a good rate of $40/night at the Stratosphere. What does everyone think of that hotel and the casino? Also, is that a pretty good rate?

Are there any coupon books I should sign up for before I go to Vegas or do I have to wait till I go the first time and get a player's card. I'm going to buy the book Comp City within the next week and that should help me out.

I Stayed at the old Imperial palace last trip in february.
Ya get what ya pay for. Call them ahead, ask for the player rate, get a room close to the elevator, with some kind of view. make your deal over the phone, as they will pull the rug out from underneath you if you show without reservations.
blackjack is as good or better than most on the strip.
but the place is still a dive compared to others. -next time I will spread for a little extra, and get a nice room elsewhere.

Check out Lena Prima's (daughter of Louis Prima) free lounge show at Sahara,
its better than the blackjack!

good luck, Brutus.

Hmm I assumed that most of the hotels on the strip were going to be pretty nice no matter where you stayed. Perhaps the stratosphere isn't going to be that great...

Dont let me mislead you!

The Strip hotels are all livable.

I tried to do it on the cheap, to see how it went. Laughlin is my preference, and the Avi down south is what I like. they roll up the sidewalks early, with less crowds and better blackjack.

The two are pretty comparable, though I'd give the edge to the Stardust, as long as you're in the main tower (west tower I think).

The rooms are pretty basic in both, but quite acceptable. Last time I stayed at Excalibur it was a real zoo with all the kids running around. You don't get that at the Stardust.

Actually, given that the Stardust is scheduled for implosion around the beginning of next year, I'd stay there, while it still exists.

Two of the best coupon books are The American Casino Guide that you can buy anywhere for about $15-it has tons of 2/1 buffets, shows, some matchplays andthe like.
A bit more expensive is The Las Vegas Advisor,an on-line membership runs about $40-but you get some great coupons-More matchplays(including a $25 one) and a coupon for unlimited drinks for two at Ellis Island,a locals casino one block behind Ballys.Check it out at http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com
The first book is great, but the Advisor book works best if you make at least two trips a year.

Thanks Ken. How easy is it to get a good nights rest at both casinos? If I can do that at the Stardust I think I'll stay there. When I looked it up it said it had one of the largest lit signs on the strip so I was worried that would somehow keep me up with the light shining through the blinds. Since I've never been to Vegas I also have no clue how noisy the rooms will be.

Most casinos charge extra for Strip views so that shouldn't be an issue.I believe ACG has a free room upgrade or something similar for the Stardust.Casino due north of Stardust is Slots of Fun,where you can find one of the best dealers in Vegas,Charles on the DD game.Just look for a Chuck Berry look-alike.

I was reading reviews on other websites and one of them said the Stardust is where the wiseguys hangout and go to bet on sports and stuff, is this true? That might be cool to observe some mob guys. I'll have to add meeting the mafia to my to do list!

I just got back from Vegas today stayed at the bellagio. It's nice and all but I would not stay there again and I would definately not gamble there. Everyone that worked in the casino seemed pretty rude. I had good experiences at Caesars and Paris and think when I go back I would like to try staying there.

If your not going to bed till the morning, you really shouldn't have to worry about the brightly lit sign shining light in your window and keeping you awake. The sun will be shining in anyways. And during the day, most (if not all of the casinos turn off their outdoor sign lights......I think it is a conservation mandate in L.V. not to waste electrical energy on outdoor lighting during the daytime). And of course, if the sunlight is really too bright even with the darkened out blinds, don't forget to take your eye mask (the dark colored ones you put over your eyes to keep the brightness out while you are sleeping or trying to go to sleep).

You might enjoy the IP. It really is a fun place to play blackjack. When I was there this past December, I had a nice clean well maintained room. But I got it because I asked for a recently remodeled room. They must have some that have been remodeled and some that have not been remodeled. You also might want to take advantage of staying there before a final decision is made to tear it down (at least that is what I have heard).
