El Stratosphero, Circus Circus, Sahara??? They had them last time I was out there, and I can't imagine they've done away with them since last fall. But Downtown is the place to go for cheap gambling if that's what you're looking for.

$5 games on the south strip are rare but these days I have noticed several $5 tables at the MGM but only early AM. Once they see any kind of action in the pit those limits go up. Trop is probably the only casino that has $5 tables 24/7 except if you go out the Trop's back door and go to Hooters.

It really depends on what time of day and what time of week you're looking for games. Tropicana has the most reliable $5 game, but Excalibur, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, Planet Hollywood, Flamingo, Imperial Palace, and Treasure Island all have $5 sometime. I usually play on weekday mornings so I frequently find them, but you might have to look off-Strip.

Watch out for 6:5 shoe games at HET properties. O'Sheas and Flamingo both have games which have the $5 sign displayed prominently and the "Blackjacks pay 6:5" sign hidden behind the ash trays.

Avoid the strip. Avoid downtown. Discover a different side of Vegas.

That means:
Have a car
Don't expect spectacular "scenery"
