Luxor 21 Barring: A Badge Of Honor
It's a Friday and the Luxor (before MGM-Mirage bought it) has no deluxe rooms available. Some suites are for the taking at $400 a night. Sticker shock, but I booked it Dano for two nights. The suite was located on the north side adjacent to the pyramid. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, steamroom, jacuzzi, huge living room, and a fully loaded bar. Took a couple of shots of courage and enjoyed the view, wondering how I was going to pay for the plush surroundings. It would take many hours of blackjack to get this comped. Knowing that the Luxor offered double deck blackjack was the way to go.
Went to the casino and found double deck in the high limit pit. $25 minumum and a empty table. Saddled up and played. Gave the pitboss my ID and told him I needed to accumulate comps for my room. Spread $25-$200 and was up and down. Within ten minutes, I noticed that another floorman parked next to me watching. I smiled but he was stone faced. The main pitboss gave me my players card and wished me good luck. We traded a few jokes while the other floorman was breathing down my neck. I felt uncomfortable with the good cop-bad cop situation. I threw up my arms and said, "OK, OK, I am counting!" It was a gut feeling to confess. The tension broke up and the main pit boss said "We know who you are, and it is good that you came clean with us." I was down $400 and said that I needed to pay for my suite through playing. He said as a reward for my honesty that he would comp my suite for both nights. He even threw in tickets to a luau held on Friday nights at the Luxor. He said that I couldn't play 21 at the Luxor, but he would not report me to the competitors on the Strip. He said "stick it to them at blackjack, we don't have a problem with that." This recognition was a badge of honor. To frighten a casino with skillful play is better than the high from any drug.

well you got your room comped and they wont fax your face around town so it looks like you won. go to down town vegas for counting, and never count at your own hotel!

I'm sure most do however like we've seen in the past this is going to turn into a flame war between JSTAT and his alter Ego MovieCasino$$$ vs the rest of the forum.

The experience at the Luxor was completely true. I thought it would be a good read about advantage play. Many "closet" members don't want to speak up in fear of ridicule. Alright fine JSTAT you win, this was a very helpful post to all the members on this site and we are much better AP's because of it.
For all new members on here JSTATS post just gave you some tips on exactly WHAT NOT TO DO if you are going to be a card counter.
If you want comps? DO NOT go spread a 1-8 on a DD at the casino you are staying at. I can't exactly say how you should go about getting comps in vegas but I'm pretty sure this isn't how. Shad do you agree?
If the pit bosses begin to crowd around you? DO NOT continue to play while joking around with them, leave immediatly! Your wife just called wondering where you are, your buddy just got sent to the hospital, that cocktail waitress over there is calling your name. Anything is better than just continuing to play. You don't even need a reason to leave either, just say have and nice day and get the hell outta there.
And most importantly if you want to be welcomed in vegas for more than 4 days DO NOT SAY "Ok guys you caught me, I'm a card counter". Thats like if a sniper spent 4 days sneaking into enemy territory to take out an enemy then once hes into position firing 17 flares into the air right above him. Just doesn't make any sense.
