Default BJ Book

HI,

I am new to BJ. I know how to play and I know a little about basic strategy (but not much).

I am planning to buy a few books but there are so much to choose from,

Here is a shortlist I drew up from reading review on Amazon.

I plan to buy 2 or 3.

1) The Theory of Blackjack: The Complete Card Counter's Guide to the Casino - Peter Griffin
2) The World's Greatest Blackjack Book - Humble
3) Blackjack Bluebook II: The Simplest Winning Strategies Ever Published - Fred Renzey
4) Professional Blackjack - Stanford Wong
5) Beat the Dealer - Edward O Thorp
6) Knock-Out Blackjack: The Easiest Card-Counting System Ever Devised - Olaf Vancura
7) Blackjack for Blood: The Card-Counters' Bible, and Complete Winning Guide - Bryce Carlson

Which ones would you reccommend?
Is there one not on the list I should consider?

Thanks,

Liam.

P.S. I added a Poll for people to vote for their favourite just for interest!!

Is "Professional Blackjack - Stanford Wong" still a good book to get. I checked at the local Chapters book store and they would have to order it in since it was published in 1994.

Yes, Wong's book is still an excellent choice despite having been published several years back. You can get it here as well if you can't find it locally.

For many years, I recommended Wong's book as the best introduction to counting, but there's no doubt it's pretty dry reading. In the past few months, my recommendation has changed. Kevin Blackwood's new 'Play Blackjack Like the Pros' is the best new addition to the literature in a long time. It's an easier introduction, peppered with anecdotes from his play.

Our Chapters had this book and I did buy it and will read it next; I have another book that I'm half way through. It's called "Best Blackjack" by Frank Scoblete; I don't know if it's considered a good book; but, it's not dry to read and I'm enjoying it.

Maybe I'll still get Wong's book though. Thanks.

I was reading Blackwood's book by the pool yesterday. In addition to some good info delivered in a common sense manner, it also has a chapter on tournament play that boils down most of the most important principals down to chapter size.
