Default Monorail rates??

In Vegas next week. I prefer to walk from A to B after the smoke inhalation in the casino, but much of my play is in Elko/Winn, and I realize that this may not be possible in Vegas due to distance/safety concerns.

Can anyone tell me areas to definately avoid, we'll be staying at the MGM but I anticipate playing mostly downtown casinos as a red chip counter. Is it safe to walk back and forth or is it more advisable to use other modes of transportation. What are rates for the monorail?

Default No!

It is most definitely NOT safe to walk from the MGM to the Freemont district. From the MGM it is mostly safe to walk down as far as The Wynn, but not much farther. The Monorail station, attached to MGM through the MGM shopping mall will get you as far as the Sahara, which usually has $5 tables, but to get Downtown (Freemont) you will want to take a cab or study the bus schedule. It really is not walkable, distance or security wise.

However, once Downtown, the Freemont area is very open and pleasant to walk about, at least before dark. Most of the downtown casinos are within easy walking distance. The street is closed, bricked in, and a huge canpoy covers several blocks in bright, open, pavilion style. The Plaza sits on one end and Las Vegas Blvd crosses the other. Most downtown casinos I have been in have $5 or less BJ most of the time. I have often be told not to stray off of Freemont Street, therefore, I don't.

Aside from the occational pan-handler, I have never been hassled anywhere in Vegas, at any time day or night; just use good judgement and use appropriate descretion at the cash cash should things go your way.

Good Luck!

On the strip is bus 381 or 382 that runs 24/7 that will take you right downtown from the MGM. Think it is $3.00 per ride. LOL

I was in Vegas 2 weeks ago and road the monorail. It is $5 for a single ticket or you can buy all day passes and things like that. I was going to take it to freemont but when you get down there(to the end of the monorail route) you then have to take a shuttle to freemont, so I was not to hot for that. I also worked for the company that made all the automatic doors for the Las Vegas monorail so enjoy. The bus costs $2 or like $5-6 for all day. Cabs are nice but expensive. I took a cab from Bellagio to Gold Coast and it was $8.
