I posted this already over on QFIT, but thought more eyes might see it here:
I'm having a problem simulating a playing strategy that I generated using CVIndex, and I was hoping someone could help me. Whenever I run a simulation with my playing strategy I designed specifically for my parameters, the resulting win rate is much lower than just using Wong's Hi-Lo numbers.
Here's what I did:
First I did a "control" simulation with the following parameters:
- 75% pen
- 400M hands
- S17, no LS
- Wong's Basic Hi-Lo strategy with Illustrious 18 indexes
- Bet spread 1-12 (1 unit at TC<2, 2 units at TC 2, 4 units at TC 3, 6 units at TC 4, 10 units at TC 5, and 12 units at TC 6+).
- unit size $10
This resulted in $13.83 win rate.
I then plugged the same parameters into CVIndex and generated "Big 63" indexes.
Then I created a new playing strategy using the indexes I generated. The result was a win rate of $1.54. It didn't seem to make sense that the numbers would have reduced the win rate (especially by that much).
Here's how I made the playing strategy:
Under the Playing tab, I clicked "Define/Edit Strategies", then "Create New Strategy".
Under the Type tab, I clicked "Advanced", checked "Double down after split" and "Multiple Deck", and unchecked "Dealer hits soft 17" and "European".
I left the Counts, Insure, and Groups tabs untouched.
Under the Tables tab, I clicked each of the red boxes under "Soft 17, Mult." and entered all of my indexes.
Then when I tried to run a simulation, I loaded my strategy chart as the "Primary Strategy" under the "Playing" tab, and the result was the $1.50 win rate.
I've checked all the parameters to make sure there wasn't something else wrong with my simulation. At one point I ran the sim that was giving me the low win rate, stopped the sim and changed the Playing Strategy back to Basic Hi-Lo, and didn't touch any of the other parameters. It gave the right output ($17/hr or so). So there must be something wrong with the strategy chart I've generated, but I've double checked it a bunch of times, and I didn't make any errors entering the numbers. The index numbers themselves appear to be good, as they closely mirror the Illustrious 18, aside from a few minor differences (such as standing on 13 vs 2 at 0 instead of -1).
If anyone has any suggestions about why these new indexes don't seem to work, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
