Taking other players' insurance bets?

I've often wondered this and figured this would be the best place to ask. Let's say you're at a table where no one else takes insurance, and the count goes up enough to where the insurance bet is a favorable one. Would it not then be wise to ask the other players at the table if you could have their insurance bets, or would this draw too much heat? Or do casinos not allow this at all?

Most casinos will allow this and I've done it myself while holecarding.
But bear in mind that this is a dangerous move that has great potential to bring tons of heat down upon yourself. Not to mention the fact that the player who's hand you're insuring may be not legally required to release the money to you, and may try to screw you out of it.

They do that, more frequently than when partnering their doubledown. zg

I have seen it, but IMO it is a HORRIBLE idea.

It's one thing to take a double and you both win, but it is an ENTIRELY different thing for you to take ALL THE MONEY.

Caution!

You'd better be a good people reader because most people become confused with anything out of the normal. The ensueing quagmire for misunderstandings will surely draw the ire of pit slantheads. I shy away from these and alot other plays for this very reason.

This is a great idea in theory but not practical in real life. The only time you can do it and get away with it is if you are ready to head out the door. Simply getting the other players to understand what is going to happen is half the battle.

On another note, IMHO, if you are using hi-low or a similar count with a low ic then the ev isn't worth the bother and headaches this will cause. The only time it would ever be worthwhile is if you are hc'ing and there is significant $ on the table and you are ready to go and not return.

There's situations where it could be good. Like if you see the hole-card, the guy next to you is betting table max, and/or the count is like +20.

But it will bring down heat.

Worst of two worlds - I did it with a certain casino manager at the table, kibitzing with me - won the bet and the other player scooped the entire thing - even the original bet - and the casino manager laughed and walked away.

All I could do was run my best Rodney Dangerfield routine! zg
