Weird and Funny Blackjack Hand I Played Thursday

#1
I was playing at a casino in Mississippi thursday. The dealer showed a 9 and he peeked under it like it was a 10 to see if he had a blackjack. He had an Ace and turned it over and proceeded to take the players money. I said, "What are you doing?" He said I have a blackjack. I said, "With a 9 and an Ace you have a blackjack."

He got all embarrassed and said he was sorry. He had to call the floorman over to tell him what happened. He put back the money and we played out the hand knowing he had a 20. The other two players hit and busted. I had $25 bet and had two cards that added up to an 11. Normally I would have doubled down but since I knew he had a 20 I only hit. I got a 7 for an 18 and the dealer started to pass me by and I said, "Do you think I'm going to stay on an 18 knowing you have a 20? Hit it." I got a 2 for a 20 and a push.

If he hadn't have made the mistake I would have doubled down and lost $50 instead of getting a push. Of course I wouldn't have hit a hard 18.

I'm surprised that with that type of a dealer error, that the pit boss allowed the hand to be played out. Another way to handle the hand would have been to ask if the players wanted to stay in the hand, or pull their bets back. This is a common way that hands are handled at the casinos I play at when various dealer errors occur - such as when the dealer accidentally deals an extra hand, forgets to deal a hand, forgets to deal a card to himself, or deals the cards in the wrong order.

Many casinos have let me play the hand when dealer has 20 or 19.. If dealer has some stiff, they have asked us to play on request. There are also places where I got freeroll on the hand..

The thing is this dealer error doesn't affect the sanctity of the distribution of the cards. Every double exposure I have seen has resulted in the hand being played no matter what.

Once the dealer accidentally flipped over an ace under a nine. Pitch game. I had 19. I hit, got the two. I had a grin on my face, dealer says "you got it, didn't you..."

Sadly, had the double exposure never happened, I would have lost that hand, but the next hand (which was a dealer BJ) would have been MY blackjack. Ah well.

I wondered how taking the 2 affected the rest of the hands afterwards. I won $428 for the day so I was happy.

This was a pitch game but because of the screw up I mentioned that I had been dealt an 11 and would have normally doubled down. This is why the dealer knew I had and 18. He was just going to turn over his card again (which for some reason he had turned back over) and take my money, until I told him I wanted a hit. :)

Had something similar

I'm at 3rd base, have a 13 vs 3, neg count. One of these fast relief dealers that try to play your hands for you, just flew past me. I tapped for a hit as he flipped his hole card, said loudly that I wanted a hit as he hit is hand twice more in rapid succession to pull a 20.

I'm saying to him, I wanted a hit to which he said he didn't think I wanted to hit a 13 vs 3. He called over the pit and told them I wanted a hit. Minimum bet out but it was the principle of the thing. I told to pit to check with the eye if they didn't believe it. They checked and sure enough....

They wouldn't change the dealer's hand (damn) but allowed me to hit mine. Got a 3 for 16, hit again with a 2 for 18. At that point the dealer started to grab the chips from the table. Hey wait I'm still hitting here - got my 3 :laugh:

You wouldn't surrender 11 vs. 20.
Ahh, somehow my mind skipped over that part and I just thought there was an 18. Serves me right for being on here half-awake when I posted that. My bad.

another dealer error that helped me win

I was playing at the OLG Casino in Thunder Bay, ON and i got dealt a 20 and i waved my hands to stay but the dealer accidently flipped me and it was an ace, he called the pit boss over and told her what he did and then the pit boss asked me what i wanna do knowing that the next card would give me a 21 i was allowed to double down on a hard 20 to get 21 and the dealer flipped 20 so I won
