Damn multiple universes!
Well, clearly, when I wrote that, I was in a parallel universe where it said at the bottom of the forums index page, "Welcome to our newest member, Automatic Monkey." Now today, in this universe, there is no evidence that he is a member.
Neat trick, huh?

I also saw Automatic Monkey listed as the newest member. Strange that he isn't on the "Members List" yet, but neither is the current newest member.

Automatic Monkey hasn't responded to the email confirmation to complete his registration. That's why he doesn't appear in the members list.

Is a monkey a ten card in one of the Chinese languages? I've noticed a lot of Asians players saying "Monkey, Monkey" any time a dealer has a bust card and it is his turn to hit.

No, not that I know of. "Monkey" is a term they use to designate a picture card (face). I believe it is used more in Baccarat.

I think you're right, but it makes for great cover at the BJ table! Talking about other casino games at the table is a fun way to sound like a typical gambler. I remember one time I doubled a pair of fives and got a third five (I usually ask them do deal it face up). The other player groaned but I shouted "Three of a kind! I could have used this at the Three Card Poker table this morning." I lost the hand but got away with murder for the rest of that session.

I was playing at an Indian casino a few months ago and drew to a low starting hand making an eleven. I shouted "MONKEY" when I signaled a hit for the second time and the Dealer got really pissed. She thought I was calling her some insulting name! She was a very large Afro American! The Pit Boss knew what I was talking about, but no one else at the table did. I no longer use that designation for a Paint!

Oh man that is good! Wow I never thought about that, that a person might consider "monkey" to be a reference to ancestry. The dealers around here do yell "black action" and sometimes I answer "Come now, isn't this an equal opportunity casino?"
Worst thing I ever yelled out at a casino- I was cheering for the dealer to bust and yelled "Come on, bust that F. cherry!". The whole pit just stopped and stared at me, and I was informed that such language was not allowed in their casino.
And the most costly- I often sing along with the music as I'm playing. The band was Cheap Trick, and the song, of course, was "Surrender". Cost me half a unit.
