First of all, the hotel was just ****ing ridiculous. No other way to describe it. The nicest hotel I've ever stayed in, with the city center in Vegas being a close second. The entryway has a giant fireplace-thingy. There's a guard at the door which makes me feel a lot better in Detroit.

Bed was unbelievably nice, there was mood lighting... I mean, just indescribable for a simple non-suite room. It really would be worth paying the $150 casino rate to take your woman here. Be careful, though, because they'll lie and say they can comp it if you play, but you need to play a LOT for them to comp off a room here.

Next, the buffet was fantastic, tied for the best I've ever been to. Huge selection, including some sushi, lamb chops, etc.

Even the food court was decent, which means excellent because it's a food court and it's supposed to be buck-nasty.

Sadly, the blackjack was not so good. High limit was ok (not as good as Vegas) but you're going to need a $100 min to play there. On the floor, they hit soft seventeen.

The players, on the other hand, were awful. Probably the worst place I've been to. Lots of aggressive ploppies bitching about your hand. Multiple crackheads, lots of low-lifes showing way too much interest in me, etc. Be really careful here.

I disagree with it being the best buffet ever - it was OKAY but nothing to write home about. Maybe the nicest looking though!

We stopped in the grand this past weekend but didn't play a lick. I walked past the tables and didn't see anything worth playing on the floor. The lower limit tables were all h17 with poor pen that I could tell but that was after four or five passes over the pits. You were right about the gangstas' in the place but I have to imagine it was better then what you would have at Motor City. I wouldn't set foot inside that place after dark since my last trip to detroit years ago.

Great hotel in a dying city. Food excellent, club is great, only drawback is that the casino floor is extremely smoky. If you like to smoke, then your in luck, Will be there early Dec

It is a city that will make a comeback,,it just has too much going for it and if Illich buys the Pistons and takes them downtown, as I believe will occur, that will be a great plus.

It is always such a grand experience to play in Detroit and Windsor, just across the river, and share the BJ table with Blacks, Asians, Arabs, Chaldeans,
Whites, Gangstas, what have you, and all for the most part very positive and friendly and respectfull people. Really adds to the gaming experience IMHO which I have come to truly enjoy.:):1st:

Funny thing happened to me yesterday in a city I've only been to once before. I was playing heads up at a table in the early morning. It had been a NMS prior to that but the PB took the sign down because it was dead. Up to the table walk two Gangsta's, tats and all. One of the two plops his "fity" dollar bet in the circle as soon as he walked up. The other stopped him and apologized to me. Actually they were fun and decent to play with, talented players and very respectful of me. One of the two was mixing counting and progression together, I was surprised. I played two shoes with them and had to go. When I colored up the one asked me to stay because he liked playing with another good player. I had to go, my time was up and the phone had already rung. I apologized to them and gave them a bs excuse, wife or something and moved on. I have to say I enjoyed those two shoes. You never know....JtMM:cool:

Detroit area.

Some of you gents are a little off on the games offered in the Detroit area.

I just arrived back on the Rez. from a trip there and I found 6D shoes, with HS and ASM from $25 and up,,,lotsa $25 with a HA from .36 to .28 and a DD that you can get headsup almost all night and day with a .44 HA. Very playable.:)

Had no problem with other players but I was playing HL.

MGM does have a rip off 6.5 trash pit but it is closed on the weekend,,,if that makes em happy so be it,,,let the suckers lose:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Hello,

I'm new to the game of blackjack. I just turned 21 last month and I'm trying to learn. I'm from the metro detroit area so MGM would be one of the casinos I would be playing at. I've played there twice since my birthday last month.

What do the abbreviations HS, HA, and ASM stand for. I'm pretty sure DD stands for Double deck? And what do you mean by MGM has a 6.5 trash pit? Sorry for the newb questions.

HS=hand shuffle, HA=house advantage, ASM=auto shuffle machine.

Buy some good basic BJ books, the Mr. Smith sells them here, check it out.

You have a long road ahead of you m4,, but maybe in 6 years or so you will have a home in Detroit, a condo in Vegas, a Cannondale, and livin LaVida La Locha.:laugh::);)

I'm starting with The GameMaster's blackjack school 24 lesson course from this website. I do plan on buying books later.

I'm on lesson one where I have to remember basic strategy for my casino blackjacks rules. Do you remember the rules for the $15 min bet game?
