Default when blackjack choose 1 or 1.5?

Hi everybody I am newbie learner of blackjack.

Last time playing at a local casino, when I got a hand of blackjack and the dealer's up card was 10 or A, the dealer asked me if I wanted to receive 1 unit pay immediately or wait for the dealer to reveal her hole card and if the dealer's cards turned out not being blackjack then I could receive 1.5 pay otherwise it would be a tie.

I chose to wait and won the 1.5 pay. But was it a correct choice according to Basic Strategy?

Default Yes, you did the right thing

When the dealer has an Ace up and you have a blackjack, the dealer will offer you "Even Money" before checking for a dealer blackjack.

A basic strategy player should always decline the offer of even money, and hold out for the full 3:2 payout, even though sometimes they'll push and collect nothing instead.

"Even Money" is just a shortcut for taking insurance, which is a bad bet for the player. A longer explanation is available near the end of the Blackjack Rules page here.
